No snakes where we were hunting. I was actually a bit surprised given the weather. Seemed like perfect snake temps in the mid-late morning. We'll often see them crossing the washes & roads where we hunt, but none this time. -
I really LOVE those M77's, Bobby! Just picked-up a great .30-06 here on this site a couple of months ago that I plan on using for the early rifle coues hunt in a couple of weeks. Good luck selling! Bump for a great rifle! S.

So did anyone else get out last weekend? Turkey and squirrel opening weekend coinciding with the quail opener forces you to pick a side between the three species. Between the three, I always side with chasing Gambels for opening weekend!! Went out to my old favorite stomping grounds on Friday & Sunday this past weekend. Plenty of birds. Likely could have had limits had it not been for my poor shooting and knocking-off a bit early each day. Overall, I would rate the Gambels population this year as pretty darn good (at least in my favorite areas). Man, as a side note, those ridges lining the sand washes get a little steeper each year, don't they? I know azbirdhunter88 got out and did well! How did everyone else do?? S. -

+ 1 on the mid-section method. I shot a nice big squirrel while scouting elk last Fall. I'm not a regular squirrel hunter, so wasn't sure what to do. The guy I was with suggested the 'mid-section' method, and it worked great! Then came the cooking.... I just kind of went with my intuition, and it came out great!!! I quartered it, and the browned it in a cast iron skillet. After browned, I added a big load of sliced mushrooms and cooked those down. After the mushrooms cooked down just a bit, I added some cream of mushroom soup (thinned a bit with milk....). A little salt and fresh ground pepper.... I then simmered on low, covered, for a couple of hours. Served with white rice, and it was EXCELLENT!! I had never eaten squirrel before, and I was very pleased. Meat was super tender and very mild tasting. The closest 'domestic' comparison I could come-up with was that it tasted like tender, slow cooked pork. S. -
I don't have too much personal knowledge of 6A for coues, but there was another thread here very recently with this exact question. Maybe do a search in the forums here, and you might get some info. Good luck!!! S.

Have you guys checked the latest usual 'mainstream' options? (Stubhub, Vived, etc....) My guess is that you will likely need to seek your tickets out there to have a reasonable chance at getting your hands on. Not sure what your budget and definition of 'reasonable price' is, but I just checked and they are starting at $38 for the first Wild Card game. Goes up game by game from there. Then fees on top...... Of course if you don't get tickets in advance, there is always the scalper option day of the game. That can sometimes work particularly well right after the first pitch when the scalpers are unloading to cut losses. Good luck, and good luck to the D-backs!!

Right or wrong, I really don't see any boycott of significance happening. IMO, the fans will be fans, regardless..... Between the hardcore fanatical football fans who are going to watch no matter what, and the average apathetical attitude towards protests, etc, I really don't think the sports bar owners have much to worry about. People are going to show-up for their beer & wings either way..... Seems like most of the folks truly upset about the situation already didn't seem to care too much for watching pro football anyway.

Sounds like an awesome adventure! Love those mountains! I'm going to sleep-out at the base of that range this Friday night to get a early dark-thirty start on a day hike of glassing/scouting. Prepping for next month's hunt. That is some STEEP country!! S.

Yup. Public land hunting. SO grateful we have the amount of public land that we do here in AZ. This kind of thing can & will happen, but I'll take it gladly as long as I can hunt the amount of land we have access to here in our great state! Congrats to your boy on his buck! S.

Did you actually read the article? It states: "The meat will be distributed to the state, volunteers who participate, food banks and Indian tribes." Here's another story that says details are still being worked-out. We'll see how this plays out. I myself, would like to maybe get involved if it ends-up being possible for 'average Joe' hunters to participate. All else being equal, whether the meat is donated or I get to keep it would not be the make or break for me participating. Would I like the meat? Of course! Would I still like to maybe take part in it just for the experience even if I don't get to keep the meat? You bet!! I am absolutely NOT a trophy hunter, but if all I ended-up with was a cool pic (trophy pic) and some good stories, then I would be in! Like I said though, there are LOTS of assumptions that would need to align for me to be genuinely interested. For instance, I am NOT going to hike 10 miles in the snow to do it! S.

I've had a FoodSaver for several years. Primarily use it around hunting season.... You've gotten some good tips here. For sure, the point about moisture and/or wet food is important. The dryer the better, in my experience. Also the tip about freezing things first, then sealing. I made a big ol' batch of Green Chili on Monday with the trimmings & neck meat from my son's antelope (Fresh Hatch Chilis! Yum!). I basically have frozen portions of the green chili in 2 & 4 serving Tupperware type of containers. Sometime this week I will remove it from the container like a big chunk of ice, and vacuum seal it. Works great. Our hunting buddies will be loving it in deer camp this year. As far as reheating, for me it depends. On the green chili for example, I'll simply take it out of the bag and slow thaw/heat in a sauce pan. For other items, full prepared meals, etc. the boil in the bag option works great! Also, there are some quickie helper videos of tips & tricks on Youtube that you might check-out. Good luck!! S.
