  1. Looks like a beauty!   Out of curiosity, did you run the serial number through the Winchester manufacturing date site?  Can be pretty cool to know that info....

I've got one that my father acquired 'new' in the box in the early 60s (Was found in an unsealed crate in an old warehouse at the Ray mine when they were relocating things to make room to expand the mine to an open pit operation.  They found a crate full of brand new Model 94's, that had been purchased by the mine in the late 19-teens to guard against a possible raid by Pancho Villa.  They ended-up raffling them off to the miners.  Dad ended-up with one....).  It was manufactured in 1915.  Oldie with full buckhorn sights, etc.

Love these old rifles!!  Would have put my name hat but looks like you have a line of willing buyers, already!  ;)

  2. Last night's dinner.  Elk stew meat ground into burgers (mixed in about 25% beef fat trimmed from a brisket I smoke a couple of weeks ago), plus grilled sweet potatoes.  Went with lettuce wrap style because I'm trying to keep my carbs low.

Was VERY good but concluded that burgers are WAY better with a toasted buttery bun!

  3. Ya.....   Sort of sad.  My old man was in a B-17 over France on D-day.   Always break out his scrap book and look at his old pics, documents, etc. this time of year.  They were all heroes.

Sort of related, but not exactly; I was in London early last month, and it happened to be during the "VE Day" holiday.  Though it is not an official national holiday, there was a BIG parade up The Mall Road (road leading directly to the palace).  I saw a few American flags here and there as a remembrance and thank you for our country's huge part in England and all of Europe's eventual victory over the Nazi's.   Was nice to see the American reference's here and there as they celebrated one of the biggest unofficial holidays of the year over there.

  4. Perfect timing!

Saw Mark's post and it reminded me that I needed a new scope for my 7MM BAR, so I just got back from a quick run to Healy's.  Spoke with the Vortex rep a bit, and got help from a nice young man named Jose'.   Got a great deal on a new scope (left the rifle there to have them mount it) and picked-up a couple of boxes of ammo.

Great service and prices, as always!

I've got one of those exact boxes (smaller size though, I think...).   I added some weather stripping to the top of the box, which additionally helped seal the dust out.     I don't have a SxS, but helps greatly in the back of a pickup.

It was built as a canal system to generate electricity to build Roosevelt dam. Shut down in the 1950s after Roosevelt dam was complete in  52 or so.

That's interesting......    I always assumed the diversion dam was simply built to 'divert' the water into a canal and around the dam construction site so they could build it.  Never dawned on me that it would/could also generate needed electricity for the project.  (Of course, I have never done any historical reading of any kind on it, hence was ignorant on that fact....  Reading is good! lol)

One thing I DO know is that back in the early 80s we used to catch a s-ton of channel cats and some dang nice flatheads up and down the stretch of water below that thing! ;)

  7. Hey guys!  Been absolutely BURIED in work travel for the past two weeks and have not had much time to look here (or tend to basically ANYTHING else fun/personal...).     Just saw this, plus another reference to an account takeover scam late last week...

@joelpresmyk, call or text me at 602-399-4769 and we can hopefully straighten out your account.  (Unless you just want to keep this one and I can kill the other....  Just say the word and I'll do that.)
