Redman replied to C.O.U.E.S.'s topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
great buck nice and wide, congratulations on a successful hunt. -
nice 130 lbs of deer killing machine out of the woods.... share some more details, how far was the chase, etc.

Great story, another Dec tag will come your way if you wait it out again... these deer are humbling to say the least. I was in a similar position as you this year, found a good buck on the second day and was torn with do I shoot him or not... I did am have not looked back (to be honest after reading your story I am glad I did). I am not sure if the Dec tags are all what the are made out to be (big rutting deer chasing does on every hill) other than there are fewer hunters in the field, cooler temperatures and more time to hunt. But with more time... usually interferes with life's responsibilities. The rut usually starts heating up the last 5 days of the hunt...and hunting in snow can be impossible. Another thing to consider in 33 there have been 6 hunts before Dec and probably 800 bucks killed and deer patterns have been disrupted. Thanks for the story!

Dec 5 started the countdown for the 10 day "forecast". All is well for opening weekend, about a week out, a "chance" of rain crept in...no worries its a long hunt. Final scouting trip left me in a lot of back pain, hobbling around, visit the chiropractor and the visit helps, but not enough to set up camp, so I stay home. Sitting at home on Thursday night the rain moves in, alarm goes off, still raining... can't miss opening day, decide to head out. Miserable rainy day...call it quits early and head home. Get some rest, up before the alarm, head out. Greeted with rain in Superior, keep driving. Out drive the rain, turn up a familiar road, start glassing. Soon spot a buck pushing a doe, is he a shooter or not, what to do, 16 days left in the hunt, Dec tags don't come around often. Then the rain comes, pull out the tarp cover me and the gear, deer beds, can't see the buck, but I can see the doe, he won't leave his doe. Finally he gets up, shakes off the rain, and beds again. I get a better look... I like him. Time to shoot, range the buck, 450 yds, dial the scope squeeze the trigger, nice sound, but did I hit him, can't find him in the scope, jump back in the binos, he's hit, but not down, squeeze another round off... did I hit him, can't find him...back in the binos, there he is, got to shoot again okay relax, breath, squeeze... he's done. Pick a land mark, take off after to him, of course nothing looks the same, walking around zig zaging in the rain, find the yellow patch of grass, there he is..I am very happy. Now its raining harder, sopping wet, get him boned out, pack is dripping with water, oh my back...long slow hike to the truck. Turn on the radio, listen to the last two minutes of the Cats bowl game!! Great day. Time to start shooting the bow! Thanks for reading.

love it... love the awkward silence of the Ice T video when he replies and the interviewer doesn't know what to say -
for example (I don't know this guy from Adam).... but on AT, you can pick up a entire bow for a good price. do you know your draw length? http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1912903
 -
Awesome, I would say pick the bow that fits you best spend most of your $$ on the bow and the arrow rest (QAD or Ripcord). Accessories are crazy expensive and you can pick up used items on Archery Talk for 1/2 or more the price in the store (as Elepe25 said) 7 pin sight. stabilizer case Release string wax, misc items, etc.. these items in a store could run you >$350 (and that is on the light side).. keep that in mind..dozen arrows $120...

What is considered accidental.... I doubt mass shottings are "accidental" in addition how many patients do the doctors in America see in a year? I can make any statistical data favor any argument..... However people kill people with guns... A gun is a tool
 -
for the record, I did not call you retarded, but the email received from the nameless post is retarded in MY opinion... also I am no math major, but if there were 7 then 16..isn't that a 128.57 increase....
 -
I shot a buck pushing a doe, I did not see any rutting, but he would not leave her side.
 -
I am pretty sure the tags go fast as there is no draw. First come, First served. Its always seems to be a mystery when the tags will go on sale. I have wanted to hunt the res for many years. If you do, good luck!

*****Updated with Story and Pics****What's your hunting style?
Redman replied to gaps's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
great story and way to stick with it.. rule of thumb, where there are junipers there are WT (WT are found even lower.. i shot mine this year at around 2500) -
very cool for the last few years I have been hunting MD in NM with my muzzleloader, I think I am going to WT next year
