Round 2
Pine Donkey replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
There goes Barry with the class warfare rhetoric . -
That is hilarious! It is also very scary. These people live amongst us, they vote, and their vote counts as much as yours!
-
Hope you have a great one, that includes some time in the outdoors with your dogs all while being completely spoiled by you husband! Happy Birthday!

I have often made the drive to elk camp after a Friday night varsity game. It makes for a rough Saturday morning, but still a great time. Congratulations Tyler on a nice cow, and 458 yards...great shot!

I love it when a plan comes together!

Anybody can get turned around, even a very experienced hunter. One evening a friend and I were chasing bugles during the archery hunt. It was one of those magical evenings where the woods were crazy with bulls screaming in every direction. My friend shot a 6 point, about 20 minutes before dark. We waited a few, the started blood trailing it as a huge thunderstorm was moving in. Soon, it was dark, lots of lightning, we were soaked and the blood was washed away. We decided to go back to the truck and return in the morning. We knew we were about a mile from the road. After about half a mile of walking we came across a road, but it was red and cindered, our road was grey gravel. Luckily I had taken a good compass reading before leaving the truck (pre GPS days). We reestablished our bearings and hiked through the downpour back to our truck, now a mile and a half away. My point is this: anybody can get turned around, and the weather is never predictable. At a minimum everybody in the woods this time of year should have water, lighter, fuel tabs (I prefer a small can of stereo), gps, radio, extra batteries, light jacket, and an emergency poncho. Be prepared to take care of yourself.

A small backpack with GPS, radio, extra batteries, lighter, fuel tabs, water and light jacket does not weigh much. I am pretty sure it is less than the backpack he carries everyday at school. Some GPS functions get tricky to use, but the "mark" and "go to" features are pretty simple. Glad you were able to help him out. Karma will be smiling on you and your boy.

Doug, thanks again for sharing your talent.

My son had a similar problem, but before we figured it out, it broke a spring in his bolt. Contact Winchester they will want to take care of you.

That's a great looking buck. As a dad who has taken lots of kids hunting for the 15 yers, I would gladly give up my tag if it meant I cold take a kid hunting. Congratulations Porter on a great deer!

My heart aches and my blood is boiling!
Pine Donkey replied to huntjunkie's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Often times we send them over seas, or put agents on our boarder with the fire power they need, but we don't allow them to use it. Additionally, when they act to do their jobs in a horrific situations we put them under a legal and public microscope. Everyday I am thankful for those who serve to allow us to have the freedom and security we often take for granted. My condolences to your friends family, and thanks to Ryan for his service. -
Our thoughts and prayers are with him and all your family. He sounds like he was a great guy.

Very nice bear!
-
Now thats piling up some bone! Congratulations on a great hunt.
-
Still quite a bit of bugling early and late in unit 1. Bulls are not real hot, but we were able to call a couple in and get some video.
-
I was in unit 1 with no luck. I did not hunt too hard for bears, but did not see any either.
-
Congratulations! Those birds are tough to get in the fall.

What kind of bear is this? Nutrioso, AZ
Pine Donkey replied to Norteno's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
I was in Nutri this past weekend. Many of my parent's neighbors were passing around this picture and talking about the big bear. Some are claiming that G and F have sent off some tissue to see if it is part grizzly. One story even claims it had been planted in AZ from Ted Turners ranch in New Mexico where he has grizzlies in a high fence area. It is the buzz of the geriatric, dog walking circuit of Nutrioso. If you hang out at the post office for more than 10 minutes you are sure to hear about the local grizzly that was killed. I was treated a real buzz kill for suggesting it was just a big healthy color phase bear, fattened up on garbage (based on where it was reportedly taken), and a picture taken from an angle that made it look huge. Congratulations to the hunter on taking one heck of a bear!
