    Proposed-Hunt-Guidelines-for-2018-2023

u answered your own question - if we had the facts to prove them wrong they'd be unable to implement or change hunts / programs whenever they want most changes are from bogus harvest numbers- easy when you make up #'s to suit your agenda all this asking imput is just a show and we all know it ( proper procedure for open conversation on paper) most know -- like stated above - very very very rare if not impossible to be able to get G&F commission to change anything once its been proposed example--- the commission was told by "biologist" elk ratio for unit 10 cow to bull out of projected ratios biologist suggested more bull tags- now consider they've had 1600 cow rifle tags for the last 10 yrs plus - one might think the best thing would be to reduce cow tags- nope they made a new muzzleloader bull hunt in 10 - 75 tags expected harvest is usually about 35 % so they adopted the suggestion with the thinking that killing a projected 26 additional bulls in unit 10 would be the best way to balance the cow to bull ratio. sorry to say -- written comments or going to these meeting usually produces little if no changes to proposed guidelines

Whats the longest youve left an Elk in the field

I'd never leave any animal lay dressed-Period - this is my thoughts this is if you got no help and cant move it and know its over an hr to get help of some kind. 1- bare minimum gutted -split ribs and propped open - try to roll onto branches limbs too get off ground - move into shade -if possible -takes 10-15 minutes -- you got about 2 hrs max- 2- minimum - gut- cut off all legs (hide on) hand'm in shade - make bone cut on big rear legs to split the meat open - helps to cool down faster - split ribs prop open -with ribs down backstrap off ground - place in shade - takes about 30 minutes-- then you got about 2 1/2 hrs that's why takin what you need to process an animal on the spot is so important ***** field pack with bare necessities knifes -sharpener-1-2 ponchos ( to lay clean meat on) game bags of some kind- always a 8-10 ft piece of rope/cord to help tie a leg off or tie pieces to pack or pack frame ( extra _extra )- batteries for headlamps -after dark nothin sucks more than no light to see***** go into the field expecting to tag something -take what YOU think you need to get job done on the spot where the animal falls

Drew AZ Unit 8 Late season Rifle Bull--Help Please.

the one thing about unit 8 is the main roads are rarely closed. they are good all weather road. pray for minimal snow fall before January -- lol I've been on the loop around Williams in over 2 ft of snow and never had any problems other than meeting someone coming the other direction one good thing about snow easy to see the travel route of the migrating elk and pick a spot -- REMEMBER a lot of elk will travel the same routes/trails
  14. most these fires are burning thru the old burns with all the grasses fueling it- sometimes wonder why they don't thin out a lotofthat dead timber from the earlier fires yes pray everyone stays safe and hopefully not a lot of damages this fire season - its just starting

I went anyway-lol guy called several times wondering if I'd gotten my elk and when was I returning- I never returned any of them - I tagged out first day of my 2 week hunting time and just enjoyed camp and helping others went back to same job 3 weeks after I was told I wouldn't have a job if I went hunting.
