Haha my cousin was parked on that stretch of 188 this morning and had one down by 9:00. I will be heading down there tomorrow but I am headed fishing at Rosie.

What a horrible experience that must have turn into for your uncle. How could something like that happen and the guy still be in business? Hope your uncle gets every dime owed to him.

I would stay away from white if it was me. Why have anything that would possibly stick out if you are spot&stalking. If your not confident in it don't use it, confidence is a big tool when going spot&stalk.

Great work as usual Clay

Pond Jumping Ducks
WHALE replied to Big Browns's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I used to hunt ducks. Shot plenty but never got a pintail. What a perty duck. -
It will go to a draw regardless gotbow. I found it funny that the same year you could no longer bait was the same year we no longer have to mandatory report our archery deer killed. I thought for sure that once they saw people were killing deer without bait it would come back in a few year but now you don't have to report it and no way to see how bait didn't make that big a difference.

Do cactus antlers never shed (buck or bull)? If not do they continue to grow velvet? And if they continue to grow is there a rot going on in the antler? Always wondered if there was a smell to them? Just curious to the process.

My daughter was able to harvest her first buck yesterday. She had applied for youth tags and was not drawn so we picked her up a left over down south. We packed Thursday and hit the road at 2:30 opening morning. We arrived right about first light and started hiking. We glassed all day Friday and turned up 28 doe and not one buck. We kept at it Saturday and glassed 5 more doe before locating a 3x3, forker and a spike. We went after them but after getting to within 160 yrds of them the shot never came (locating deer in the rifle scope can be a little challenging at 10 years old). We hiked and glassed some more turning up another 10 doe on Saturday. With sore feet, cuts and bruises my daughters were not sure hiking was going to be an option for Sunday. I told them if Sunday we could get up to this rock out cropping we could glass 360 degrees and have a decent chance of picking up a buck. Sunday they woke up at 5:30 and said "dad lets go hiking". We reached the rock and within the first hour only had a doe. Then I glassed up Emmy's buck. I told Emmy there's a buck in range get your gun. She settled in on top of a little boulder and harvested her first buck at 200 yrds. What a great weekend with two of my daughters. They worked hard and I couldn't be more proud of them. Alex on top of the rock out cropping Emmy had to call mom and tell her she got her buck Dad and Emmy with her first buck

Congrats to you and your wife.

I have used them on five elk in the last two years and love them. I snap a blade once in awhile but that's probably user error. I don't even carry my gerbers any more.

Congrats on you first bow kill.

I hunted out of a treestand the first 3 mornings and seen a good buck the first two but he was never headed my way. Yesterday I left the stand and decided to glass a few spots on my way back to town. I glassed a coues at the 3rd spot about 1/2 mile out on a ridge. I only had my 10's and could see it had a rack but couldn't tell how big. I watched him for ten minutes or so with his nose to the ground zig sagging back and forth until he finally was headed in a straight path head down a finger ridge. I decided to get over there in front of him where I thought he was headed. I got to the ridge in front of where he was headed and as I was topping out I snuck around a juniper and there he was at 12 yards with his nose still to the ground. He heard me nock an arrow and bolted. I stopped him with a grunt and guessed the yardage at 40. I hit him right behind the shoulder about 2" high of bullz eye. He made it about 90 yards. Not my biggest but I will start trophy hunting next January. MAYBE

You could be hunting bulls in November with archery. It is extremely do able if you do your home work.

Great buck, shot, and way to stick to your goal -
Congrats on an awesome buck. I shot a bull few years back with a hole bigger than my thumb going through his face right up next to the brain cavity from being gored by another bull. Like Amanda said amazing what animals can survive.

Thanks guys Amanda I have always wanted a creek/river background for a kill picture. I had to over come a couple obstacles for this one but it was the closest I have harvested a buck to a creek and decided to use it for the picture.

No pig tag for me this year TJ. I had put both my daughters in hoping they would get tags and nada. Emmy got a turkey tag so we are both excited for April.
