When do desert mule deer shed?

I have caught them on trail cameras in mid March with no antlers. But usually into April. I like to look around water catchments/windmills then. Sometimes when they jump the fence they will drop. I know of a pair of sheds that went over 220 from unit 41 a guy found that way.

    CVA Optima V2

I shoot 300 grain MZ Expanders and 100 grains of 209. I have found with my Optima that the heavier bullet gives me more accuracy. Also have found in my setup a solvent cleaner every 5-7 shots gives me an accuracy improvement too. One thing to keep in mind is that it seems every gun seems to like a particular load. I have owned 2 Knights, the Optima and a 700M. What shot well in one gun didn't mean it was going to shoot well in the others. This is a 300 grain MZ Expander pulled from a deer I shot at 150 yds quartering away. It went through the hip and lodged under the shoulder skin on the opposite side
  4. I have used 3 different browsers and two different computers trying to get into the draw applications. I have cleared cookies, disabled add ons and still get the same BS. Anyone else or am I too stupid to apply for the draw? Maybe I am too freakin dumb but thought I would ask if anyone else has had issues.

    WTB Heated socks

Lots of heated socks on Amazon. My wife is diabetic and her feet nearly froze this past weekend. She wore insulated boots and wool socks too. We are in the market for a good heated sock. Some of the rechargeable socks have the best reviews but when you are tent camping that is not practical. We are looking at getting her the AA or 9 volt battery type.

    2019 regs

I must have a short memory but it seems like they reduced the archery antelope permits by quite a bit from previous years? https://s3.amazonaws.com/azgfd-portal-wordpress/azgfd.wp/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/27120936/2019-Pronghorn-Antelope-and-Elk-Regs_WEB.pdf

Got mine at Cabelas 2 weeks ago but paid no attention if they charged a convenience fee.

    Utility Trailer Opinions

I have owned 3 trailers, one single axle and two tandem. I tore the axle off of of the single. It wasn't any one thing that tore it up but using it on dirt roads. I had to call a welder out to weld up the axles to the frame. 80 miles of mileage, 2 hours labor and a service call were pretty expensive. If you are going to be using it on dirt roads dual axles are the way to go. If you want easy hookup and primarily use it on good roads and light duty then single axles are the best

    Desert Muzzy Hunt

I have a couple of friends that have this tag. They are seeing nothing but dinks and does. I have had this hunt several times and keep telling them the last 3-4 days of the hunt is when it usually picks up in the areas they are hunting. One thing that is causing problems is the recent rains have the deer scattered from one end of the unit to the other. They are not stacked up near water sources like they would be in dry years.

    Moon Cycles and Deer

I forget trying to figure out moon cycles. I hunt whenever I can. I have noticed over the years that when sitting water full moon days were much less productive than dark days. And I have been told by biologist that day length influences rut activity more than any one factor. Just hunt

I nailed down seats for this game as soon as they came on sale. I should have waited. Go Rams!

    Glassing question

Angled. And I use a spotter equally as much as 15’s for glassing. Until heat waves start to distort the image my 15’s are not capable of detail at the ranges we sometimes glass. Having said that 10x42 are what I use most of the time. And if I had to choose it would be an angled spotter over 15’s or a straight spotter

    Canyons or flats?

Thanks. Those are unit 42 bucks killed a mile and 5 years apart. I killed bigger from the same area but didn’t have the money to mount them. The one on the right was archery.

    Canyons or flats?

I have been hunting desert mule deer for more years than I care to admit. Dry years look near water, wet years like this it’s like flatlander said, they are where you find them. Good luck cause you’re going to need it

    Chinook Salmon

Nice! We are in the process of trying to find a fishing lodge in Canada where we can do some fishing. Halibut and salmon are near the top of the list. What type of tackle?

    Crossbows?

Shoot the Excalibur recurve crossbow while you are trying them out. I am looking at a reverse shoulder replacement in the not too distant future and am leaning towards Excalibur because of the weight. They are a bit wider unless you go the Micro series and very accurate. Also have one string to fool with and no true timing issues. A crank is a must as their top end Xbows have a 260-280 lb draw weight. I can still pull a 60lb compound but my time with archery is short.

FIRST TIME DRAWING ELK TAG UNIT 9 Late Rifle

Expect all kinds of weather.......warm, dry, wet, snowy and cold! That unit can get freakishly cold sometimes. If it's dry sit tanks. Otherwise find country you can glass. We have taken several bulls out of there this way. And we hunted near the reservation.
