Reliable to 1000 yards .300 Win Mag Remington 700 with Huskemaw and extras
roninflag replied to Bjorn16's topic in Classified Ads
what barrel? -
I have had several rem 700 vssfs. amazingly accurate . I shot everything from 40 grain to 63 smp from sierra. all good. the 60 hornady , nosler , and berger all shot good. the 65 was not available. at that time. I doubt it will stabilize it. never needed to try it. those others worked fine . I would lean to that factory trophy bonded , or one of the 60s especially the partition. that said, a buddy shot a 97" coues with a 50 ballistic tip.

6.5x284 mule deer/coues gun
roninflag replied to trophymaster's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
the 6.5-284 is fatter. I would probably like a 6.5-06 for its smoother feeding. but already have the 6.5-284. my 7mm rem mag with a brake kicks half as much as the 6.5-284. my brother now shoots a .264 with a Krieger barrel and a brake. he shot a coues at 627 yards last year. -
6.5x284 mule deer/coues gun
roninflag replied to trophymaster's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Trophy - i have two 6.5-284s, on of them is going to kaibab in 2 weeks. i just shot it thursday at 600 yards. very small groups. my brother had 3 6.5-284s and my son-in-law had one. also. what makes them so good is the rem 700 action and the krieger barrel, the shilen trigger. your results with a factory rifle will vary. -
What do you think about having a 3 point minimum for Mule Deer?
roninflag replied to Gunit's topic in The Campfire
Gunit- what states? also, you do not say what unit you were hunting. if you want to see big bucks hunt a unit that has them. choose a hunt during a time of the year when you are more likely to see them. the game and fish dept weighs and measure deer over time in Kaibab. a yearling buck that dresses out 83 pounds, and has a 4"inch spike horn on one side will never become a big buck; a yearling buck that dresses out 123 pounds, and has 5 points on one side and 4points on the other and a 23" spread will has great potential and will always be bigger than ANY spike. -
awesome figure in fwt stock! I would use 168ttsx.
