my dads a retired heavy equipment runner and mechanic. Wouldn't trade him for anything in the world but sure wish he had a freezer like your dad does!!! You would be surprise what our favorite item was. The smoked salmon bellies from visiting his friends in Alaska. YUM. I can no longer eat grocery store fish.

4th of July is the worst time to be in the White Mountains. Roughly the 50 or 60 thousand people influx makes driving almost impossible and the rudeness level goes through the roof. I was going stir crazy in my house and had to go outside, but where. If I went to standard spots they would most likely overrun, so I went opposite and dropped to the Globe side of the canyon for some crawfish. My first time targeting those bugs and I learned a couple things. Like pull up your trap evenly or they fall out and they eat alot. Now to find fresh okra in show low. Round 1 Round 2 Line caught Final tally

My step dad was partners in a business importing Cajun foods to Las Vegas. Whenever I go over I raid his freezer. He also had an assortment of seafood (bluefin, albacore, and salmon) that went missing last time I was there.

Lol. I always thought it would be hilarious to go during the night before the parade and mix up everyone's chairs and canopies they have roped off along the highway. Would be utter caos the following morning. Brian I have had that thought. I wanted to get a ten man team and move every chair back 50 yards exactly how they had it along the street. I was even going to break up the areas into sections to maximize the areas covered. Prdator - Thanks for the advice I am going to flatten the holes out right now. The crawdads in this pond were literally jumping out of the water.

Circle K's were some of the worst. I have seen where they were annoyed with the fusing, got rid of it and replaced it with a smashed piece of copper tubing.

Back country backpack trip for Coues
idgaf replied to AZ_SAWBUCK's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I got the sawyer one from walmart for twenty bucks. One item I would suggest is a small bottle of hand sanitizer. It serves two purposes one is to clean up and the other is it makes a great fire starter (100% alcohol) -
My condolences, I understand what you are going through, my dad passed in February and I know deer hunting will not be the same without him.

This is the weekend of the year I do not leave my house or I go to vegas. The locals think its some sort of status symbol to hog as much room as possible at the parade and the flatlanders are in vacation mode and want to be treated as such. All of them are in the way. Here is some advice you do not need 1/2 a city block to see a fire truck drive by. Congrats you have a long weekend. I know its expensive I pay that price all year. Your not in the valley or Tucson and I dont care.

Not so much the pre-conceived conclusion but the actual facts of a long range shot were interesting. I see both sides of the argument. For me on normal game at this juncture in my hunting style (deer, elk, etc) the hunt starts at 100 yards and stops when I get to my first pin. Five of my last six ungulates were taken with my 1st pin and sixth was taken with my third. However, I would be a hypocrite if I said I never attempted a long shot or passed on a long shot. I took my antelope at 90 yards and passed on elk shots at 30 so I could get closer. With all that said when I get close enough to a mountain lion, again, at almost any reasonable long range (or close range) distance I will look like Legalos from Lord of the Rings.

Happen to me last year. I created every possible flavor of jerky. The consensus favorite was sirachi garlic.

Sure you do, There is nothing like the feeling of having a black bear in the dark on his hind legs popping his teeth at you from feet away.

The guys on tv do not eat the meat anyway. I think the answer is "it depends." It depends on the animal, the amount of predators, area, etc. I have shot two animals where it was a judgement call on whether to follow or leave over night. One was an elk from a couple of years ago. I shot it at last light with my muzzleloader. I forgot my flashlight and went home for the night. The over night temp was 25 degrees. I lost the majority of the meat. Contributing factor was I shot it through the wind pipe and the slug ended in its stomach, it died very quickly Second one was an arrowed bear. Shot thirty minutes before dark through one lung and the liver. we waited three hours and started tracking, it ended with us finding the very alive bear in the moonless night at less than ten yards and an ethics question of legal and ethical I am less concerned with predators as much as the animals own skin. An elk and other well insulated animals follow through the night. Deer with easy access, its up to you. Deer five miles from a road in rough country, stay.
