Century Centurion P-14 7MM Rem Mag
Cazador replied to Cazador's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Took my girl for a test drive this morning and she is sub-MOA! 1st Group: .83 MOA, 2.5" high @ 100 yds 2nd Group: 1" MOA 2.5" high @ 100 yds, I pulled the second shot so it is probably ~.75 MOA 3rd Group: .72 MOA, 1.5" high @ 100 yes, I made my last adjustments to bring it down to Barnes 150 GR TTSX ballistic info. If I don't count the fudge shot on my 2nd group the average would be ~.75 MOA @ 100 yds which is great for this this off the shelf old non-name brand rifle. Shoots very nice.- 10 replies

Yes, it took down that beast! Now I have to go after a big Coues and want to make sure it is as accurate as possible for long range canyon hunting. If it does not work out I have my eye on a Remington Sendero.- 10 replies

Before putting the $$ into this rifle I had the gunsmith fully evaluate the barrel and he said it looked really good. The action on this gun is based on the 1917 Enfield P-14 which is a solid. I had a speed kit (bolt mod - cock on open) and single stage Mark II trigger (2.5 lbs) installed. Action has been pillar bedded with stock/barrel free floated with bedding, shrew muzzle brake and Kick-EEZ recoil pad. Also had it cerakote painted and put a 4-16x50 Vortex FFP scope on it. Oh did I say I put a little bit of $$ in it? LOL...- 10 replies

Yeah, that would be the next option to pursue with this rifle but I don't want to spend anymore $$ on it. Looking at a few sites that provide ammo twist rate calculators it appears that this rifle should be able to stabilize a Barnes TTSX 140g bullet fine which is what I'm going to start with when I head to the range to sight in. Just wanted to see if anyone else has this somewhat rare rifle and how/what is working for them.- 10 replies

Nice setup... why did you pick the harvester over the omega? Price? Omega is a little more smaller. -

Tuesday only hits " I think it's safe to say I got a bonus point"
Cazador replied to Toph79's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
I find it strange that they can be done in one day especially with a LOT more tags......Maybe they made significant progress with their tooling. -
Well I guess that throws out that theory for me!.... LOL! Congrats to everyone who drew!

WOW! Nice way to start and end your 2015 deer hunt. -
Going to finish it this weekend.... Maybe an early start after work on Friday since there is now whisky and cigars!

Man I really wanted to be there to help pack those beasts out. Great job on guiding and I'm hoping for a tag next year. Here is your Godfather's Euro skull I'm working on... almost done.. will finish up the whitening when I get back into town from work travel.

Thanks all for your comments... can't wait till next season... will hopefully be chasing some monster Coues with my cousin who is the Coues Whisperer. I would love a 100+" greyhound to go on the wall with the muley. After that I'll go back for the bigger non-typical that is haunting the area where I took this beautiful deer this year.

Heavy body and antler buck, congrats!

Limited Opp Any Elk Hunt Success - Two for One
Cazador replied to PackerMenges's topic in Elk Hunting
Very nice!.... I think I know the area you were hunting (looks familiar in the pics) as to it is one of the areas I often hunt for Mule Deer and have seen some bulls and found some large sheds in that area as well. I'm shopping around and am considering a custom rifle... would you mind telling me your rifle configuration... ? I took a look at the Western Precision Rifles site but could not find any reference on base rifle price... Thanks! -
Sweet bull and short video. I had my headset on my iPhone and just started turning the volume up high when you screamed. Scared the $h1t out of me!

Oh... I would think so especially for the rut... I know for certain bulls and bucks will travel miles in search of everything they can possibly mate with...
-
I think the main variable here is feed, water & cover.... The area I hunt has really good resources but depending on the time of the year they could move much further.... I'm thinking ~5 square miles..... that much area would overlap pine & juniper habitat.... Anyhow I chose this unit & area I hunted this year due to the fact I have consistently been seeing them (big bucks) every year since 2010......

An account from another hunter who had been scouting for his upcoming late rifle bull hunt that had seen the buck I harvested, it was roughly 1.5 miles away where he had seen him the week before..... so 3 square miles... I thought this was really good info for next year if I get drawn again.... this area is mostly rolling hills with some steep hills and small mountains... hope this helps...

That is a beautiful buck!
