    Hunting's Next Perversion

Hey Curtis he never said you couldn't do it just referred to it as a perversion. He doesn't agree with the practice and that is his prerogative. So what. Tony is a traditionalist from way back, his opinions are his business. Tony FYI Amanda has and uses one with a cam but I think it's just for her research, I think it's hunting usefulness are pretty limited.

    Backcountry Bowhunting

I have a copy I could loan out. PM me if you are interested.
  6. I was just making note of the overall number of tags in that unit from Aug - Jan. It gets hunted a lot, but people seem to take plenty of bucks there are every year.
  7. One sound option to consider may be the Galiuro Wilderness in unit 32. That early December hunt usually has some left over tags I believe.
  8. Don't forget 300 jr tags and 200 muzzleloader tags and OTC archery hunts in August, December and January. Lots and lots of tags, hands down the most hunted unit in the state. Success still hovers around 30%.
  9. CHA looks like you have had some great times hunting with your family. It's been years since I have had my Dad or brother along for a hunt, and even though my biggest coues have fallen during that time, I'd trade it in a heartbeat for some quality time with those two. I think you'll find CWT is a pretty family oriented bunch and you won't likely be seeing much criticism of a family doing it together. Congrats on some good times in the woods!

    Can we get hoodies made????

Anyone else notice that it's been 6 months and still no hoodies? Why, you ask yourself? Zippers, fleece and some weird Cardinals pull over dinner on the beach looking thing. This is exactly like asking my kids where they want to go for dinner, everyone has a different answer and no one can agree. Well guess what, they get digiorno and we get no hoodies.

    So we have Arizona...

Shelling out 2k for binos may not be a wise investment for an eastern guy on a once in a lifetime trip. Checkout optics4rent or Ross outdoors for rental rates on high power glass. As far as units, they all have deer and 90" bucks are killed in every single one. If you are hunting solo the border might be more adventure than you are comfortable with. A good rule of thumb is that units that start with a 2 probably have lower densities and units 34+ are a little more adventurous due to the border.

Mind sharing what the sale price is once you have it worked out? I have a pair I was thinking about selling.
  15. And tag availability. If you are planning for a specific year in AZ there are a number of units where you can count on getting a tag without fail every single year. Those hunts have plenty of deer and success rates around 30%. In NM if you get very far from the Burro Mountains you are rolling the dice, and getting a unit 23 NM tag is no sure thing. AZ for DIY public land hunting. If it's a representative buck and a Sonoran dessert experience you are looking for it's here for the taking.
  16. AZ that isn't even a question.
  17. I guess I am not offended by this. The purpose of the companion tags was to give deer hunters the ability to harvest buff opportunistically because they were trying to reduce the numbers off of the ranch and it was pretty tough to rely on finding them on hunt able ground in the past. That has changed, some guys have gotten pretty efficient at patterning them and have been very successful. I doubt outfitters would have driven this change, since previously they were doing pretty well at knocking down buff and now their pool of hunters is reduced drastically. I don't know how many companion tags were sold in the past but with the limited number of buffalo tags available, those tags are not a significant source of revenue. Just increasing the application fee for big game hunts this year would have generated probably 10x the amount these changes can produce. Most people will disagree, as the general consensus around these parts is that anything AZGFD does is centered around greed, corruption and destruction of the individual agenda of each and every sportsman in the state. But what I see here is a herd doing well and an increased opportunity for people who would like to hunt buffalo without drawing a kaibab deer tag. Ok let the burning at the stake commence . . .
  18. They got rid of the companion tags correct? Were there any other changes?
