Awesome! Even the pic gives me a brief sigh of calm. I love that place, totally unplugged from everything.

That is strange, something has to be canting the back of the scope or the scope has to have an internal issue. Not many leave the factory with a serious issue like that so my guess is it is somehow higher in the back. Unless you have a level system like the weaver set I am not exactly sure how you can check this. If the bases are not MOA bases then they should basically be level.

Tony that is fantastic, what a great idea!

I have the RCBS and think it is great. It takes a little learning to get it to work perfectly and you can't force it. I have used others as we'll as a Forster case holder modified to work on a drill press. This also works well but the RCBS is extremely convenient. I made the switch to the RCBS after seeing Shawn Carlock use it in his videos. If those guys trust it to shoot extremely successfully out past 1K yds it is probably good enough for me.

Good point! I used just 15's for the last 8 years, left the 10's and the big spotter in the truck.
-
I would take the 15's or take 12's and don't take the 10's at all. I don't see the need for 2 spotting scopes between you. If an animal is that far away you should have time or you would never get to him anyway.

Running into hunters with dogs?
rcdinaz replied to couesdeerhntr's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
The rim is tough, seems like opening weekend I usually at least hear dogs. As Kidso pointed out I am sure it is becuase road access is pretty good through most of the rim. Last year there were not a ton of bears in the pears like the year before. Talking to successful hunters and a few ranchers there were a ton of bears in the acorns and mesquites. So I really appreciate the tip on the Manzanitas, probably a good area to have on your list this year. Also, looking like it may be a critical year to be very close to water even a lot of holes I am used to seeing that are dried up this year up on the rim. I think we have three bears we got on camera over the last month and all are in the same area where there is a small amount of water always present. -
BFG's are always on the top of the list. The Pro Comp's I had two sets ago are still at the top of my list. They road great on and off road and held up really well. The General Grabber's keep getting rave reviews in a lot of articles but they are pricey as well.

I agree, Roosevelt has been really slow for us the last few years. My dad caught 3 last month in one afternoon and he fished very hard for those 3 fish, only one good one (all were on medium sized crankbaits). At Apache even on a slow day we catch a few good fish. Last year middle of the summer we did pretty good pitching lizards in the small coves on the deeper side of the lake. typical summer fishing we went for a 2-3 hour stretch catching fish every 10-15 minutes and then it completely shut off back to nothing like it was in the morning. Also, Rosey can be crazy windy which just makes fishing miserable, Apache has much more area to stay out of the wind. Good luck!

ideas on a rifle for my daughter
rcdinaz replied to 4Falls's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
.243 or .260... Mine have a .243 and we just finished a 6.5 x 284 build for them. They shouldn't need another AZ rifle now. -
What a beast!

Nice one!

I would play this out and make record merchandising $$$ and generate unprecedented goodwill and support if I owned the team. I would do my best to make it even more political so I could do my part to waste the time of as many nutty politicians and special interest groups as I possibly could. - First I would concede and say that we will work through all of the necessary changes over 3-5 years. Get an ACLU member assigned to the team along with every other nutty org out there. They are all just dying to give their opinion so bring it on. - I would change the uniform every year with a special "last of the redskins" color and uniform (have to work on that tag line so it is more PC). Limited edition numbered all that jazz... limited to how many I sell, wink, wink... - Every game I would honor a different tribe and convert a section of the stadium seating to their name. Invite the tribal council, hang a flag in that section. Maybe a special colored ribbon, socks, wrist bands, etc for a recognition week. Let's get all the teams to spread their love like they do with the "pink" stuff. The whole deal! - Over that time I would have a naming event followed by a huge roll-out. Of course after all that the current administration would change and just maybe all the fans would vote on the "new name" to be the "Redskins" which we could celebrate with a petition signed by every tribe smart enough to realize this is an honor to keep their history alive and relevant not an offense. Part of every game guide handed out would list all the tribes, location, and current leader with a quote from them and big thank you from the team. Maybe a portion of the proceeds to a scholarship fund or other such goodwill from merchandise sales. Take that goodwill and get the NFL to do their part of the funding, you do know they will want to be a part of funding such a grand gesture. Either way you win and listen the voice of your fans! Capitalism and Democracy... grand indeed!

There are a lot of steps: Ranch tags / paper work Gun license Vehicle license - truck, ATV's, trailer, everything needs paperwork Visa (I cant remember if this is what they call it but you have to pay to be there as well) Going through all the check points Policia / Army Enough copies of the gun permits to clear all the army depots and the policia. Stops can take 10 minutes or over an hour depending on who is working and how motivated they are that day. I am not trying to scare you off but you don't want to go and find you are missing anything or your cheap trip just got really expensive. If Ernesto sees your post he may be willing to give you a breakdown. I think he has written posts in the past on what is needed. He has helped a lot of ranches and hunters so he has the process down. You may want to search his posts. Obviously a lot of folks know how to do things as well but a lot are guides and get paid to do the work so they usually don't help for free. For the first time it would be very worth paying someone to help set things up and learn the process. Good luck! Hunt of a lifetime if you can do it right!

Yes I have seen them like that in Unit 1 and also some big herds in 3A/3C around those low lakes like that.

Would you rather buy from Big Box stores or the little guy?
rcdinaz replied to PRDATR's topic in The Campfire
I buy most products based on service, and yes I will pay a little more if the service it worth it. A lot of times great service can come from Amazon based on ease of purchasing stuff, getting quickly, and ease of returns. For archery, and a lot of outdoor equipment, ATV and auto service I would rather find a local independent that cares about their rep and their customers. So I guess I don't have one answer. Bass Pro, Cabela's, and Sportsmans all are pretty hit and miss. Some great folks in the fishing and archery areas at times but guns & optics tend to be a complete lesson in frustration and poor information. A lot of people hate the REI but I will give them credit for having actual experts. -
What a great trophy, congrats!

Acceptable COAL tolerances?
rcdinaz replied to HuntHarder's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
You didn't say if you were measuring the bullet at the ogive or not, assuming you were measuring to the tip then yes the bergers have a very small amount of difference due to the bullet jacket swag at the tip. The Hornady or Stoney point gauge works well and measure from the ogive you will have to make sure you have the right gauge for your caliber. One other recommendation, if you are using VLD bullets you should have a VLD seating stem a standard seating stem will cause the bullet to rock to one side much of the time. I often load all the rounds longer than desired and then go back and do final seating measuring to the required OAL and checking with my calipers. I do this even with a micrometer seating die. I would not do this with varmint loads but I do with final loads for big game. -
My wife is having a yard sale today and thought some of the stuff could be used by members. It is first come first serve but if you want something send me a text and I will hold it. 602/ 618 -605 8 Saw - $45 Tire - $40 Press - $140 Pack - $25 Boots - $15 each or all of them for $45 The saw has not been used a couple of times and has been in storage for a few years. Single tire was my trailer spare, never used, also fits a Ford Ranger Press is an older craftsman and is over 5 ft tall, if you are using all the speeds you probably need a new belt. Everything is in working order and I use it on the middle speed and have never changed it. Pack - Used it once but never had an animal in it. Older frame pack, Fieldline. Boots - size 10, LaCrosse mud boots, Rocky's, and Irish Setters. none of these was worn for more than one season and the Irish Setters can be cleaned for free by Redwing or completely rebuilt. If you have an OBO let me know, prices are all less than the yard sale marked prices. Thanks!

Things your huntin buddies do that drive you nuts : )
rcdinaz replied to twigsnapper's topic in The Campfire
Some good points made about having buddies and not taking life to seriously! I have come to the point that I now realize I may get pissed but the things that annoy you or things that go wrong are the things that make memories as much or more than the trophies. We still talk and laugh about the nightmare hunts and fights we have gotten in to on most trips now. My dad usually stops everyone if it gets to serious. Best line "you should probably go somewhere else if your going to have your man period today" also has a way like some of you other older guys of asking "is something wrong with you!", makes you feel like your 12 and you just got scolded without saying anything else. Still works and we are alll in our forty's. Take an old guy with you they are a great a$$ hole meter for everyone else and they have the best stories. -
