BTW: there were so few rutting bucks on my buddy's hunt that the wildlife biologist who is now a G&F Manager had to sneak through the fence near Sonoita to go grab some poop that he saw that big buck drop. That buck was ok size-wise but he was servicing 22 does! That section of land down there is the only area I have ever seen that was legitimately post no trespassing on all four sides.

Well up till archery season. By the time the gun season rolls around, you can't get to within 300 yrd. They stopped the gun hunts down there a long time ago. I helped a bow hunter years later and it was a tough HOT hunt. He got eleven shots and no harvest. He was not a disciplined archery but it was a fun hunt. We saw over 100 antelope per day on my hunt in 1990. On his hunt excluding the pet antelope behind the no trespassing signs at the fire station, we did not see 100 antelope the whole hunt. Much better now.

It was a great unit, went to nothing and now has mostly come back. Now I have not hunted that unit for antelope since 1990 but I suspect things have not changed that much except a few more houses. PM me and we can chat.

It's fun watching you, Younghunter (but he changed his name ?), and Dave King being all adult now with kids approaching the age you were.

We've had a good experience at Integrity on Ina, but limited experience. We used to go to Douglas a lot and had mixed experiences. We got newer vehicles and stopped going after one particularly bad job.

Was the scope the reason you misses?

I was cleaning today and came across a wood stock for the 870. But you know how it goes, I'm down in Tucson.

Don't let it extend beyond the end of the buffer tube. I like this idea.

You may want to take that down before someone quotes it and you cannot. Actually, it's an AOW but still an NFA item, I think. Add a Vertical Fore Grip to a Handgun (atf.gov)
-
If the brace is absent (and legal), it is just a pistol and no longer a braced pistol. BTW: I think he meant vertical foregrip. As near as I can interpret, the pistol without the actual brace, that evil device, is OK to HAM hunt. Well, until the next re-interpretation.
-
Actually, the ATF has ruled that all braced pistols are now SBRs and, consequently, they would not be eligible for the HAM hunt.
-
A more interesting question would be: Will AZGFD give a straight answer as to whether these are legal without or with the brace?

Here's a pretty good review (albeit a bit long) of the fiasco with the ATF -- they are one messed up mis-organization. Pew Pew Review

It is a "stock-like" (my words) projection off the AR-15 buffer tube that allows one to hold and shoot the gun like a pistol. Pistol means the barrel is less than 16". It was intended to assist handicapped individuals (many of them Vets). This interpretation of the pistol/short barrel rifle (SBR) controversy came about during the Obama/Biden administration (I think), which makes this "OOPS, we messed up" thing so frustrating. The brace is supposed to help steady the gun on the arm and not shouldered like a rifle. I think it was an imaginative way around the SBR laws so you did not have to register the gun and pay for the tax stamp if you own a gun with less than a 16" barrel. The braces do make the firearm very easy to shoulder, though. Curtis: thank you for your insight. Do you think the limitations of having the tax stamp (no sell/transfer/transport across state lines) are difficult to live with?
-
The SBR is only allowed if you have the NFA registration and tax stamp. Without that, they are illegal. For previous SBRs, you had to have that in place before you bought or built the SBR. For the braced pistols,iIf you put in for the stamp, the Feds will supposedly cut you slack till they approve (or deny) you -- which may be months/years. For Arizona, now that you have put in for that stamp and waiver for the $200, you have admitted you have that "illegal SBR" and relying on the good graces of the local/state law enforcement to ignore the state laws? Did you see which governor was elected? You are absolutely correct that this is all fishy and it really is starting to reek. Read the laws themselves and see if you think this is just fear mongering. Potentially, making people that own 40 million of these braced pistols felons by reversing a previous interpretation should concern everyone, and not just those that own these braced pistols. And thinking that the courts will fix this by the end of the 120 "Grace Period" may be even more naive.
