Quail: What to Expect 2021-2022
Red Rabbit replied to rcorley's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Sorry to read of your loss of Belle. Thanks for the quail report. My hopes are resting on the Mearns. -
The lake was pretty empty at the start of summer and it is nice to see it nearly full again. Wonder how long until the reeds grow back.

Best Ultralight Optics Under $600
Red Rabbit replied to Coues Archer's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Maybe the Athlon Ares UHD ? Doug at CameraLand should be able to give you a nice price. https://cameralandny.com/shop/brands/athlon-optics/athlon-optics-ares-15-45x65-uhd-straight-angle-spotting-scope/1d6646d0-f999-0137-81e0-00163ecd2826?variation=2075673 Side by side review of spotting scopes: https://backwoodspursuit.com/best-spotting-scope-for-hunting/ -
Good 10s and low end 15s? or Decent 15s and low end 10s?
Red Rabbit replied to MWagner01's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I would put both your Maven 12x42 and the Vulture 15x on tripods and see which has the better resolution using a USAF 1951 chart. Run with the better. If the Maven is best, don't carry the weight of the 15s. If the 15s are best, then get a good pair of 10x. The Athlon Cronus UHD 10x got a real good review and won't break the bank. Contact Doug at CameraLandNY for these. https://backwoodspursuit.com/26-best-binoculars-for-hunting/ Or maybe you can find a pair of used Leica Duovid 10+15. I used these as primary glass for many years. -
Here is the gauging station on the LCR near Winslow. It takes about 24 hours for the water to reach Grand Falls from the station. https://waterdata.usgs.gov/az/nwis/uv/?site_no=09400350&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060

Any recommendations on a good auto mechanic in the Show Low Pinetop area? Truck quit running, lost power in Pinetop. Cranks but wont run. Similar to fuel pump and relay problems I've had in the past. 2000 Chevy pu with 6.0L and 304k miles. Had it towed to where the art show is at In Bloom Nursery this weekend so will likely get to it Monday.
-
New fuel pump and back home in Flag now. Thanks again.
-
Update: I was able to get into C&C tomorrow so will be towed there. Ison may have been able to get to me Friday at the earliest. Thanks again for all your suggestions.

Unfortunately insurance is for only 20 miles and I have a cargo trailer
-
I have dropped the tank and replaced it twice myself. Not fun. But i do not the tools, jacks and stands with me.
-
No. It will not maintain idle. It may barely idle for a few seconds and then dies.
-
I will call Ison on Monday and hope they have an opening. I have replaced a relay, fuel filter, and the battery as it died too. My thought is it may be the in-tank fuel pump as the stream from the line with the filter disconnected was weak. Thanks for your recommendations.
-
I replaced a 6 dollar relay this morning. That was not it. I'll break open the fuel line tonight after the show and check if the fuelpump pumps.

Here are side by side reviews of many 10x binos that may help you decide within with your budget ranges. Yes, the NL Pures were top dawgs on the porch 😉 https://backwoodspursuit.com/26-best-binoculars-for-hunting/?fbclid=IwAR1EvdxU4WQUXxRrlOzYU2DGJ5UPuzQyztY8lSHC5ZtRo0iZ

Have fun on your bowhunt. Spot and stalk, or ground blind?

I had a LAW in 28 Nosler for a while. I really liked the stock ergonomics for me, and that it had a 3 position safety like Winchesters. It was accurate too. Unfortunately, I had to sell it. Good luck with your sale, Stan.

When you purchased your first big game rifle, what chambering did you choose and why? When I moved to South Texas and started hunting 40 years ago, I needed a deer rifle. After reading an article in one of the annual rifle magazines, a story by noted deer hunter John Wooters swayed my decision He wrote that for his first custom rifle, it was chambered in the 7mm Express Remington (aka 280). I figured if that chambering was a good choice for his custom, it would be good for my first rifle too, which was a Remington 700 BDL. A couple of my friends had accurate 270s, but the 7 Express was a little different.

With both ammo and bullets in short supply, and that you reload, I would consider just buying some Hammer Hunters or Badlands Bulldozers instead of the hassle of trying to get 1 box of free bullets that may not be in stock. Getting the HH or BD to shoot great has been real easy for me. https://hammerbullets.com/ https://badlandsprecision.com/

This 6x6 bull was hanging by the roadside in GCNP yesterday. Such a poser for all the tourons. Wonder if he will make it out into unit 9 to chase the ladies.
