Snow Predicted on the Black Mesa Ranger District Springerville, AZ – November 25, 2019 - Snow is predicted to arrive on the Mogollon Rim the week of November 25, to December 1, 2019 which may leave many forest roads impassable and prompting a temporary winter closure of the Rim Lakes Recreation Area on the Black Mesa Ranger District. Roads affected by this closure include Forest Road (FR) 300/Rim Road at State Highway 260 west to the Coconino NF/Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests boundary, FR 34 south of Dutch Joe, FR 34/70A junction, FR 120 north of Dutch Joe, FR 169 north of FR100/119 road, FR 225/34 junction, FR 70/63 junction, FR 181, FR 149 to Willow Springs Lake, and FR 171 including the Mogollon Rim Visitor Center parking lot. To provide for public safety the Rim Top Trailhead at the junction of Forest Road 300 and State Highway 260 will be closed. There is no parking permitted along State Highway 260. Parking along the highway is dangerous and violators will be ticketed. Parking along the FR (512) Young Road is also discouraged due to public safety concerns. The area south of Highway 260 will be open for travel but not for Christmas tree cutting. County Road 504, cutting area 1b, and County Road 916, cutting area 1c, located on the map included with your Christmas tree permit, will remain open for travel and Christmas tree cutting.

Forest Service Roads Closing On The Coconino National Forest Ahead Of Winter Storm Roads are beginning to close ahead of a major winter storm that will affect Northern Arizona this week. The Coconino National Forest will close all forest service roads adjacent to highways 180 and 89 today north to Forest Road 522, keeping Christmas Tree cutting open. All forest service roads on the Mogollon Rim Ranger District will also close, except for the Pinyon Christmas Tree cutting area. ADOT says they are closing State Route 67 to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon early for the season ahead of the storm. ADOT closes the 43-mile stretch of highway each winter between Highway 89A and Jacob Lake and the North Rim.

I'm seeing 22-30" for Flag in the forecast. I remember several years ago that many had to leave their trailers out in 6B for the winter due to heavy snow. A full set of tire chains, tighteners, shovels, tow straps would certainly be in the truck for the snow and resulting mud. I think one would be better looking lower as the elk move to winter range. There may be a good possibility of Highway 180 closing at Kendrick Park due to drifting- couple feet of snow and 40 mph gusts in the point forecast for Thursday and Thursday night.

Up to 4 feet atop the peaks and 12-24" for Flagstaff. 1-3 feet along the rim.

You and Taylor make a great hunting duo. Huge congrats to her and you. It is interesting to see how the points squiggle a bit.

Great 3. Congrats. Hybrid? 😉 j/k

Looks like it is a great year to have a bull tag. Bet you had fun and reveled in your friends' successes. -
Pretty cool. Congrats.

I built a 6.5 WSM several years ago, before the Nosler, Creedmoor and PRC were out. Resizing is nothing as you would run factory brass though the dies anyway to straighten necks. Neck turning takes just a little time. I'd start with Norma 270 WSM brass. I have Redding dies, but do not think they offer 6.5-300WSM anymore. Now, I would just go with the 6.5 PRC for less hassle, or 26 Nosler for more speed if one does not shoot it much considering barrel life. Do you already have an action you are starting with?

And another storm system is set for next week Wed-Sat. I would have chains just in case, not just for snow, but for mud too.. I recall one wet, snowy, muddy hunt in 10 where there were reports of a few broken drive trains.

Is that before or after the disembowelment? 😉 The posts in this thread certainly show those with positive character and those lacking thereof.

I was "not drawn" for "no hunt". With a double negative, does that mean I was actually drawn??? 😉

Guess I ducked as I was not hit. So will be hunting Butterballs at Bashas.

Congrats to your son on a fine hunt and Coues.

It is good to see an improvement in the reports.

Congrats. Sometimes the hunt is what puts the inches on the trophy. I once arrowed a small 6 point bull at 17 yards in unit 9 because I was pleased with the stalk and calling sequence.
-
Nicest looking bull I've seen posted yet this year. Congrats to all involved.

Remington 700 and vortex viper need scope ring suggestions
Red Rabbit replied to andrewmilich's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
You can place stacked quarters between the rifle and scope to get the right clearance for objective bell and bolt, measure the thickness of the quarters, and buy the corresponding height Talley rings. -
My thoughts would be to sell them all, get a good pair of 12.5x binos and the compact Kowa spotter https://cameralandny.com/shop/brands/kowa/kowa-tsn-554-compact-spotting-scope/3d355910-c257-0135-0952-00163ecd2826?variation=1665622

300 Win Mag hunting loads
Red Rabbit replied to no worries's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Of the images I have seen of recovered bullets, I have been impressed with the Trophy Bonded Tipped in regards to a nice mushroom and higher weight retention. It would be one of my choices if elk were on the receiving end. It is available in loaded ammo and as a component. Another bullet that looks intriguing is the Federal Edge TLR. From my 300WSM and 300WM, I have used 180 and 200 Nosler Accubonds successfully on bull and cow elk. -
Congrats to your son for his buck with super prongs
