There is the 60gr Nosler partition which should open at a lower velocity than Barnes, but my 22-250 with 1in14 would not stabilize them. Obvious keyholes in the target at 100 yards. I was along on a hunt where the hunter took a Coues at 390 yards with one shot in the lungs with a 53 TSX from a 223 WSSM. I have seen 50 gr hollowpoints blow up and only penetrate 2" of shoulder on a small Texas whitetail doe. Guy finally finished her with a 55 SP. I've shot many TX does in the neck with 55 Sierra BTSP from my 22-250 from inside 100 yards off a bipod. Are you reloading or using factory ammo?

Don Martin usually does a NR class in Kingman in early January. (it was last weekend) You might consider next year's class. http://www.monstermuleys.info/dcforum/DCForumID33/3036.html http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/user/3669-don-martin/

I'd choose the 3.5-10 for the better field of view on low power in the cedars or pines.

I have about 10 left, if anyone is interested.

2017 is Here! You can't stop the march of time, so enjoy its upcoming blessings ;-) One of the main reasons I started landscape photography in 2009 was so I could put together a calendar to give to family and friends at Christmas. Well, it has developed into a multi-million dollar venture (yeah right, I have swampland in AZ for sale too ;-) ) and the 2017 edition is available. It contains many of my favorite Southwest images from the past year. The calendar is printed glossy on heavy card stock and coil-bound, just like it always has been. Each page is 8.5"x11" Cost is $15 plus $4 S&H to CONUS One can send me a PM with your address and quantity. One can mail me a check (I will PM you back my mailing address), or pay via paypal through my email address dkoepsel@aol.com

Yes."A Loyalty bonus point can also be earned per species, if an applicant submits a valid application at least once a year for a hunt permit-tag or bonus point for that species consecutively for a 5year period. An applicant retains the loyalty bonus point once accrued as long as the applicant continues to submit a valid application for that species at least once a year." And where is that in the regulations I've been looking for that . not that i don't believe you but I didn't think it worked that way Under "What is a valid application?" https://www.azgfd.com/hunting/draw/bonuspointprocess/

Anyone reloading for a .264 win mag?
Red Rabbit replied to GreyGhost85's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
The case capacity on my 6.5 WSM is real close to the 264WM. In addition to the H1000, you might try Ramshot Magnum powder. Have you used a tight patch and cleaning rod to measure your twist? -
Tony, The follow up images and captions are great. The area around Donut Lake looks very scenic/photogenic. I hope this finds you doing well.

that garnered a laugh

A new calendar is hanging on the wall and the next trip around the sun has begun. What is new on your hunting horizons? New game to hunt, new state or unit, new rifle build, new hunting buds?

Load Development Help
Red Rabbit replied to trophymaster's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Hodgdon lists 73gr H483 as max with 180gr bullets. Nosler shows H1000 to be the most accurate with 180gr bullets, but the top loads are compressed. I had my best results in my finicky 300WM with H4831 and 180 ballistic tips. I would try the 180 BT, or 180 Accubond. How far off the lands are your SSTs when seated to fit the magazine? You may not be able to use a pointy VLD type bullet. Is the rifle bedded? Trigger pull weight? What kind of table? concrete bench or folding table? -
Sounds fun Dan.. I picked up a CZ in 17 HMR with my Christmas bonus. It has been a few years since PDs were targets. Being on the low end of bonus points for deer and elk here in AZ, I hope to go back to Wyoming for antelope this year now that I have built up 6 points. In 2016, I also picked up a 28 Nosler, 30-06, built a 6.5 Creedmoor, and rebarreled the 6.5 WSM; so there will be a choice on what to take to WY, although I suspect the 6.5WSM will get the call again. Of course, there is the Nikon to shoot in the off-season and I hope to venture to some new landscape spots.

http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/70596-wtb-65-creedmore/ was this the thread? Looks like Weatherby makes several Vanguard models in 6.5CM, including a compact with stock spacers and 20" barrel for youth. http://www.weatherby.com/products/rifles/vanguard/vanguardr-synthetic-compact.html

What would you consider to be the optimum cartridge to use for Coues hunting? Bullet choice for that caliber? Why did you make this selection? What are your other close considerations? What chamberings have worked and/or not worked for you? It seems there are some build discussions going on in the forums as the seasons end and hunts for next year are considered. I figured a variety of opinions and reasons would be fun to read. You may already have that chosen cartridge, or yearn for something better.

I stopped in the local Cal Ranch store today. They had the Remington 700 SPS for $200 off, and another 10% off until the end of the year. That brought the price down to $360. Just a heads up for those with a C-R near them.

I once asked a couple of French ladies how they would pronounce Coues, and they said "cuice", like it rhymes with juice.

Excellent in many respects. Congrats and the best to you Neil.

I wonder if this was the buck Lex M just posted on his FB page

You might try H4831. There is load data on the Hodgdon site http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/rifle

Between the two, I would choose the 270WSM in the Montana, vs the Hunter composite stock with DBM and molded trigger guard. Ballistically, the 270WSM will have a slight edge but not that the critter will tell the difference.
