According to the bonus pass report, there should be only 6 with 24 points this year, and 1 with 25 points. Looks like your door is open to most units. Last year, 23 points was in the bonus pass for unit 10. Eastman's lists 5a as a blue chip/excellent unit, but does not list 5B as either blue or green chip.

Merry Christmas to you and your family, Lark

I had been ogling a used Kimber 84M Classic Select at Ruffs Guns in Flagstaff for quite a while and eventually succumbed to its temptation. Originally chambered in 243Win, it will be rebarreled to 6.5 Creedmoor. The SSSM barrel from Pac-Nor will arrive Monday. Everything should come together in time for the November 27th Coues hunt in 35A.

New Mexico Quail

Looks like a nice hunt and warm breakfast was had. -
Noticed that the dates for archery bull and early rifle bull overlap in unit 9, and its archery season starts one week later than other units.

Mearns with the Old Lady
Red Rabbit posted a topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Rica is going on 14 years old and missed the past two quail seasons due to ACL surgery and some minor hiccups. Mearns quail season opened this past weekend in Arizona, so she was treated to a new GPS tracking necklace (Garmin Alpha 100 w/ TT15) and a trip to the oak and grasslands near Sonoita. The main reason for the tracking collar is her oncoming deafness and inability to hear voice commands and whistles. Saturday morning we hunted a favorite drainage but failed to turn a covey, although she did get birdy twice. Conditions did not seem too favorable as it has been rather dry and without morning dew. Sunday morning saw us both with fresh legs hunting the drainage on the opposite side of the dirt two-track. Favor was upon her this day as she located four coveys, held a steady point without creep, and brought her limit back to hand. It was a pleasure to me to see her hunt so well on Sunday since she has missed the previous two seasons. Fortunately the tracking collar was not needed as she hunted close and a bell in her neck was readily heard. As an aside, carrying a new-to-me Weatherby 28ga o/u was a pleasure over the heavier 12ga version. It pointed well and did not seem to have any diminished lethality, except on my shoulder :-)- 20 replies

MD33- I hope she's like the energizer bunny and keep on going ;-) Stan- Rica has been on all of my hunts and photo trips except the boat-based Sitka deer hunt on Kodiak. She's been the best $150 dollars I've ever spent. Casey- she certainly does not have the endurance when we hunted about 10 years ago, but then neither do I. I hope you are doing well. Jonesface- all of the birds we got were immature and did not have the full clown-face like in your avatar. Rica was pretty tuckered after running the ravines Saturday morning, and I did not know if Sunday would happen for her. She bounced back well and was good for a few more hours on Sunday morning. -
Nice little morning walk in ND
Red Rabbit replied to yotebuster's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Nice morning walk to get some dinner. Looks good on all counts. -
A vacation was made to southwest Colorado the first full week of October to photograph the changing aspens in the San Juan Mountains near Telluride and Ridgway. Fortunately, a storm brought the first snow to the mountains while I was there. The first weekend without snow sure made the peaks look naked. I had delayed the trip one week in hopes that snow would come to put white frosting on the peaks. One morning we had a nice window appear in the clouds that allowed Mount Sneffels look over Dallas Creek. This may be my favorite scene of the trip. Other images from the trip can be seen here in the website gallery: http://www.plateaulightphotography.com/Landscapes/Coloradolandscapes/Colorado-Fall-Colors-2015/

I recall AZGFD saying years ago that they did not use trophy racks so that the guilty could not claim entrapment/coersion. Guess the police should use ugly undercover officers in their prostitution stings also ;-)

2010 brought me a nice 80-inch Wyoming antelope, so now I have 5 points again. If a hard winter does not wipe out the herds, I am looking to use the points in 2016.

Bird vest
Red Rabbit replied to Maverick351's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
My preference is for a vest style that incorporates a padded waist belt to help support the load, rather than a standard vest or strap vest where all the weight hangs on the shoulders. -
At the moment, the camera bag has a Nikon D810. No medium format. I do not see myself as a hobbyist going that route.

Thanks. The closest I got to DC was Dolores going north from Cortez. I think my friend was to be bowhunting deer around Dove Creek this fall.

A few photos of Europe and the Alps
Red Rabbit replied to nw07heavy's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
Nice photos. If I ever went to Europe, the Alps and Dolomites would be the destination. -
I like my pair of Cabelas BriarGuard Upland pants. (I see they are no longer offered.) I have some Wrangler upland jeans, but the catclaw still goes through. You might try a pair of Filson Chaps.
