Got an early WT tag in 31. Don't think too much will upset me today!

Wouldn't worry to much about the temp sensitivity between Hogdon and IMR powders, I would however stay away from the double base powders, ie ball powders and VV-500 series powder. I have loaded for three different 7mm Mags, one liked H-1000, one likes IMR-4350, and one isn't too picky IMR-4831 to VV-165 using an assortment of Nosler bullets. Just my two abes!

I just put my fourth 6.5 barrel in 6.5x47 on, have shot both 6.5x55 and .260 Rem, not a nickels difference at least on a 700 action. Used to have a Swede 96 also. Don't know why metric calibers never really caught on here until Rems 7mm Mag. On my deer rifle, I'm in the 06 family, got a 30-06, a .280 barrel in the safe and a .270 that is my favorite. Just my two abes.

Normally I'm using Nosler Partitions in my .270 with 130 grains, but just recently I got some Barnes TSX to group out of my gun. I have a personal limit at about 400 yards where I will take a shot at an animal. Question is how much difference is there between the tipped tsx and the tsx in game getting performance?

I was using Ballistic Tips in a .280 Rem that I had, dropped Deer right in their tracks all but once, 2000, I had a shot on a med sized buck around what I figgured to be 300 yards, at the shot he just stood there then when he figgured out where it came from he ran off, when I got to where he was there was a huge circle of blood with bone chips in it, the blood trail ran out 6 foot from that circle, it was in rocky country (36b), no tracks, 4 of us looked for a day and a half for that deer, never did find a carcass, didn't see any kind of a bird circling it, nothing. That's when I started using Partitions.

Azwest16, If I remember right that screw that is loose, just holds the trigger guard in place, the other two screws are what holds the stock on the barreled action. Usually when a gun is shooting good and then goes south, it is a loose screw somewhere. With a rifle that recoils, screws have a habbit of coming loose. Locktite is one option.

I have used Kreiger, Hart, Schnieder and Douglas barrels. The two being used the most right now in the competitive circles are Kreiger and Bartlein. I perfer Kreigers, and have two on order now (20 weeks out). For Hunting, I don't think it would matter which barrel you chose, just get someone that knows what they are doing when putting it on your gun. FWIW Pac Nor barrels are liked by many also. Just my .02.

There seems to be some shooters here, so I'll post this. Here's a chance to bust out your Deer Rifle and knock the dust off from it and have some fun at the same time. The Saving Private Ryan Scope Shot. A scope will be placed on the Turkey post at 385 meters (427 yards). Where: Rio Salado Sportsmans Club, 3960 N. Usery Pass Rd. Mesa, Az 85207. This will be held at the High Power Range by the Clubhouse. When: Sunday Feb 19th, 2012. After the High Power Silhouette match. Approx. noon. Th Nitty Gritty: The cost is one dollar a shot. At the start you will give the director a dollar and then you will be given a ticket with a number on it, the other half of the ticket will be placed in a can and a drawing will be held to see who is shooting first, second, ect. then you will be called to the line and you will be given 1 minute to shoot. No shooting will be done from the bench position. Either standing, sitting, kneeling or prone. Which ever position you shoot from, no artificial rest will be allowed. If you are a shooter of known ability you will have to shoot offhand. Nobody will be allowed to shoot more than one shot at a time. Half of the pot will go to the shooter who wins and half will go to the Silhouette Division. The scope is a Bushnell Sportview with a 45mm objective. To win you must bust the glass with a bullet. In other words your bullet can hit the post knock the scope off from the post and bust the glass, that doesn't count, the bullet has to break the glass.
