It is popular, especially with guides, to establish salt licks several months before the hunt that they will sit a blind on. Spot and stock is the way to go I would say if you have a young kid with you. That's what I did all growing up, and it was tons of fun. You see tons of deer(mostly does), and if he would be excited with any antlered buck, you should have no problem at all finding bucks(more often than not a group of does will have a small spike or two point buck with them). Most of the deer this time of year are up on top of the plateau east and west of the highway, and they have liked the large burn(2006 Warm Fire) the past several years. Alot of the plateau is pretty dense, even alot of the burn is also getting that way now, so I find it requires a mix of spot and stalk and still hunting to get to a spot that you can actually see them through all the trees and under brush. If you are looking for good bachelor herds, start hiking:)

Love the bucks, but I have to echo the sentiment above, I don't think your clients could sit any further back behind their game, its like they are afraid of touching them.

EBB, that would be right after the feeling you get with a successful hunt, correct?

If you can get someone to tell you an area that has some bucks, do several scouting trips without going bankrupt or losing your family, then I would try going alone!

If you have Cabelas you can call customer service and ask for them to tell you your pending charges. I just did, and low and behold, AZ Game and Fish charge!

If you have ever hunted the strip, you would know the answer is no, it is not bad ethics lol. Every water has multiple cams up there when season gets close. I think the ethics of the area come into play when "who gets to hunt it" comes up. Should you yield to a letter (or have a strong case for writing one)before the season saying someone will be hunting there on the opener? Should you yield to a sign on the nearest road stating that a hunter is on water, please be considerate? Or should you play the letter of the law and just show up as early as possible to call the early bird gets the worm card?

I say "stick it to the man" by jacking up non-res tag fees and leave residents' lower. These proposed fee changes result in the following: Residents would need to pay 300% more for a premium deer tag than a res general tag while non-residents only have to pay 66% more for a premium tag than a non-resident general tag. Residents pay the taxes, fund and complete wildlife management projects, and collectively as a state own the wildlife, let the non-residents make up the shortfalls if they want to come hunt our great state.

The license part seems fine to me, the tag changes on the other hand can use some improvement. I plan on being at the Kingman meeting.

That is pretty simple wardsoutfitters: They gather the harvest data from the hunters that care enough about their hunts to submit it after their hunt season(they mail a card to every tag holder, as you know, or you can do it online). In the report it asks which units you hunted, for how many days, and if you were successful. Then they simply extrapolate this data for the number of hunters that did not report.

This is really interesting. If what dobbs is saying is true, guys that have alot of points and "deserve" a premo tag a little more you could say, are getting leeped frogged by people with, on average, less points than themselves in the above scenerio. Since during the first pass the guy with a alot of points actually drew his second choice, he probably is now no longer eligible to "slide up" into the unit 9 tag that is now open because of a credit card decline. And so someone with less points could then effectively slide over the guys who drew their second choice... ?

I'm really starting to regret not putting in for points all those years I was in college and broke as a joke...

Going forward, if you have been checking throughout the day/tomorrow, will you tell us an estimate of what time your card was actually charged? I'm guessing they are done for the day? Maybe they only charge during business hours, etc?

Cabela's Visa now has an automated system when you call to tell you your recent transactions. So you still have to call if you want to check charges, but its better than waiting two days until it posts on you online account. Crossing my fingers that we don't experience any further "technical issues" with the draw this year.

That is much less than once in a lifetime right there!

Nice buck. I don't endorse chasing/harrassing big bucks on the winter range when they are trying to just survive the winter on dead brush though.

Awesome video there Craig. I wish I had video of my hunts, that way I too could relive the agony of all my misses these last couple years in living color, and prove to my family that I wasn't out there just sitting on a log for a week:) I might get a hold of you and see what setup you use to film.

Where are you located? The engine only has 99 hours total use?
