Where's the best hand tossed pizza in Arizona?

Recommended Posts

2 slices equalled one quarter of that pie. 1/3 was gone by the time I made it back to Tucson

Brooklyn’s has been our go to for 45 minute away pizza! They’re horrible with veggie options on the pie but the meat pie makes it home just fine! Eating there… either is fine. Still don’t like the one in vail. Sorry buddy.

So I went back a second time and it was like a completely different pizza and it sucked, I don't know what to think.

Although I tried Mama's today and it was really good but they burnt the crust a little bit.  However the cheese and sauce was banging!

I've been hitting Trevor's Liquor on Mayo Blvd more than I'd like to admit.

I've taken several friends there too, and they enjoyed it.

It's my wife's preferred pizza now, and that's fine with me!

Funny, we had mama’s over Mother’s Day and it was horrible! Normally it’s really good. Not sure what’s happening anymore with any of these places.

Sourdough Pizza in Mesa is top notch pizza.

We tried this place, and it wasn't for me.

I gauge the pizza by ordering a simple cheese, and this disappointed me, considering the reviews I found online. Bummer.

I know ordering cheese pizza is "The way" to judge pizza, but F that.  Pizza is best with toppings.  I think the toppings at some places make or break a pizza.  Thin cut vs. Thick cut veggies.  Italian sausage flavor.  Even the pepperoni's taste different at different places.

I agree and disagree.

Pizza is best how you order and enjoy it.  What works for some may not work for you, and that's fine.

Reminds me of instructions for tasting and rating coffee.  Test it like you usually do; if that's with cream and sugar, then so be it.

I agree wholeheartedly that the quality of pizza ingredients differs at each establishment. Some pizzerias believe in and appreciate fine ingredients, which makes the end product even better.

Unfortunately, some don't have the palate to distinguish between economy Sysco ingredients and premium cheeses/cured meats.  Yes, the pepperoni is a great example.

theres a new spot in east mesa called pizzacatta or something like that. its at Painted Mountain golf course

I just tried this place.  I ordered pick-up (unfortunately) but that didn't take away from me enjoying the pies.

A wood-fired oven and a charred crust! The sauce was savory with a slight tang and not overly sweet. The mozzarella was creamy, just the way I like it.

The crust has good flavor, and the dough is not overmixed and appropriately rested, so it's not tough/chewy.  This is my new go-to place in the East Valley.  Thanks!

So I picked up a new customer northeast side. Got a Mama's to go from the Houghton spot.  It blew my tits off.  Better then Brooklyn on 4th avenue for sure.  Only complaint is it coulda stayed in the oven a few more minutes but the flavor and sauce was dead nuts delicious.  Mama was with me and doesn't love pizza and she was even thrilled.

Thanks for the tip this was the best I've had in a long time.

I drove by this place last week and was checking out the purple building when I saw Strad pizza, then remembered Portnoy doing a review. Who's going to try it and report back? 😋
