WTB AR parts

Recommended Posts

First timer doing an AR build. Not looking to break the bank just looking to complete my first build and then possibly looking to do more quality builds later on down the road!

As of now I just have a stripped lower, so any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Check online for parts there are lots of deals . Super easy to build

Primary arms ,ar15 discount, and such are good parts resources.  You can also order from  tombstone  tactical  and pick up in Phoenix

As you can see by my for sale ads, I buy and build a lot.  So extra parts are always good to have.  You will send springs and detents flying, have fun finding them.

Midwest Industries makes great solid handguards for a great price.  They are not a cheap place as in China crap.  I have almost all my builds are MI handguards (combat rail), else the uppers where factory built.

Don't buy cheap lower parts kits, you will find they may not all be in spec. I have some for sale that I use in my builds and are good quality.

If you are going to build, get quality uppers, BCM, Aero Precision are great.  Get magpul armorers wrench, midwest industries upper receiver rod and armorer's block they are blue.  Get Obsidian Arms punches/roll pins and their bolt catch tools.

For buffer tube look at 7075 only,  Springs any milspec is good and if you need to tune them, Sprinco Blue springs and some H2 buffers weights.

Good luck and have fun.  Damage Industries has parts by the item if needed.

To learn, you could do a cheap build or buy a cheap AR and learn how it goes together and what you like or don't like.

Everything that has been said is valid, but it's like most anything you are looking to buy.

With cars, what options, quality, price, etc.

If a cheap gun is truly made to mil spec, then that's going to work as well as a more expensive gun with the same basic options.

AR's are fun because they truly are a grown person's tinker toy or erector set. Many configurations use the same lower. Some use the same bcg as well. Barrels are different and some buffers and buffer springs need to be swapped for different uppers.

Feel and trigger pull are in the lower.

Different schools of thought on the billet vs. forged.

There are several guys on here that I would consider experts and they will have varying opinions in different areas.

Play with it and have some fun.

The possibilities seem almost endless from 17-223 to 50 Beowulf. 22lr has a very special bcg. Several require special magwell adapters, but a lot don't.

Watch out for short barrels making it an SBR. Learn the ATF rules.

If you buy an AR rifle, it cannot become a pistol, but it can become an SBR.

If you buy a pistol, then it can become a rifle.

If you just buy the lower, it's a "other" until you build it and declare what it is.

Stupid rules! Verify to make sure I said it right.

Most of all, have fun with it!
