I used to run about 70-100 miles a week for many years, so I have went through many pairs of shoes. Like quality hunting boots you do get what you pay for. However, I would recommend getting fitted at a store such as Runners Den, in Phx. They can make sure you get a shoe that properly fits the way your foot strikes the ground. This will save you money in the long run as a proper fitted shoe will last longer and keep you from getting an annoying joint injury right before your hunt. Makers such as Adidas, Nike, Asics, New Balance all produce good shoes. All brands make different models that are suited to people who have different bio-mechanics and who run in varying terrain. If your on the trails a lot, tell the shoe salesman. Runners Den has sales people who know what they are doing. It can be scary getting a shoe from a salesperson at a typical sporting goods store.

Take Care,

Andy

I think Andy has some great advice. I personally like the trail runners that Nike produces. I consisently find myself picking these year after year due in most part to the great cushion they have in the heels.

+1 on what Andy said. If you do go there remember to take your old shoes, it will help them analyze the way your foot strikes the ground.

I wore out a brand new pair of Asics in about 5-6 weeks in the academy. I have New Balance that I finished out the academy with, and wear about 3-4 days a week with them and they are still awesome.

That has also been my experience with asics, I agree new balance will typically last. I prefer adidas trail runners, or sometimes Nike trail running shoes. After you try a few different brands, you will find a brand that just seems to fit well.

I have run several ultramarathons. I have spent most time on the trails and road with Nike trail running shoes, solid for me. New Balance destroyed my ITB. I have messed with Asics and North Face, both good shoes. Money will typically dictate how good your shoes are but Big 5 will get you the best bang for your buck. If you have over pronation problems then you need to see a specialist. Otherwise, spend your money on a good pair of Montrails. They are tried and tested. Or, like I do, try on many shoes and see which ones feel the best for the type of running you plan to do. Any specific questions you have PM me.
