the best load for a .270 or a 25-06

Recommended Posts

I am shooting a 270Win Rem 700 that I had a muzzle brake installed on it 5 years ago for my sons first elk hut. The muzzle brake was done very badly so I just had it cut off with a 11% target crown and it is now a 19" barrel. I used Rem 150gr Core-Locks in it up till now. I Just started reloading for the 270. I am using RE17, 140gr Berger vld, rem and win brass, CCI large rifle primer. I am starting with max load from Berger load data and working down with RE17. Max is 51.5gr and working down to 49gr in .5 increments. Loaded 5 rounds each to see how they do. I will post my results as soon as i shoot them at the range. I hope the chronograph at the pima range is working so I can get better data. I hope the short barrel will not hurt the muzzle velocity to bad and will have the range and power to kill out to 600 yards.

I will redo this load as I shot a 51 gr in with the 51.5 group and the guns was hot but didn't want to go another round at the range and shot them just after the 51gr group. but like some of the groups

47.4 grains of 4064 and a 130 Berger has worked amazingly in my 270.

In the time after I asked this ? I have done alot of test shooting and shot two deer with my 25/06. I am using 117 gr sst with imr 4831. The sst have worked awsome very little to no meat dammage if hit in the right spot. But on the two deer that I have killed they just drop where they stand you cant ask for more then that.I also have my .270 loaded with 130 gr sst with imr imr 4831 and just cci 200 primers it shoots just as good on paper havent killed anything with it yet. I used some sp but found to but not as good sometimes 1 moa at 100 yards sometimes 2+ moa. I dont know if i will use hp just because it is hard to find one with in my price range
