357 reload question

Recommended Posts

Guest akaspecials

I rencently got my hands on a ton of .357 mag casings but they are a silver color instead of the brass I am used to reloading. First, what material is this. Second, is it safe to reload?

Thanks in advance.

Nickel or aluminum? If it is the nickel I would reload it after a good inspection. I never personally would not load that aluminum cases.

Edit with picture

Left to right

Steel, Aluminum, Nickel, Brass

I just threw in a steel wolf 223 round so you could see the difference in steel.

I also use nickel cases in several calibers. Just be sure to use a carbide sizing die. The nickel will scratch regular steel dies.

Nickel you should be just fine, like blade said the nickel is a little harder and will scratch up steel dies. Carbide dies are the way to go! I loaded some of those FTX leverevution, pretty sweet round.
