Century Centurion P-14 7MM Rem Mag

Recommended Posts

I just got through putting some $$ in accurizing my old hunting rifle. In determining the barrel twist rate I was surprised to discover that it is ~1:10.5 which is little slow for this caliber and especially if I want to use a heavier bullet. It appears that standard twist rates for 7mm REM mag are 1:9 through 1:10 for most popular rifle builders. Does anyone have this rifle in this caliber and/or is familiar with it? It was manufactured/made in 1987, I bought it in 1991 from a friend. If someone is familiar with it, looking to see what hand load you have devloped and/or off the shelf ammo that shoots well through it. I've taken many game with it so there is no question on its capabilities, I just want to push it accuracy to its best potential.

Thanks!

Yeah, that would be the next option to pursue with this rifle but I don't want to spend anymore $$ on it. Looking at a few sites that provide ammo twist rate calculators it appears that this rifle should be able to stabilize a Barnes TTSX 140g bullet fine which is what I'm going to start with when I head to the range to sight in. Just wanted to see if anyone else has this somewhat rare rifle and how/what is working for them.

barrel quality and a precision action, good trigger and many things determine a rifles accuracy potential. . rem 40x 7mm mag were made in a slow twist. they are very accurate rifles. since lighter bullets are better for coues in that they recoil less and are faster and flatter and have less wind drift out to 500 yards. you are fine . get several different brands of ammo with bullets 140 grains or less.

Before putting the $$ into this rifle I had the gunsmith fully evaluate the barrel and he said it looked really good. The action on this gun is based on the 1917 Enfield P-14 which is a solid. I had a speed kit (bolt mod - cock on open) and single stage Mark II trigger (2.5 lbs) installed. Action has been pillar bedded with stock/barrel free floated with bedding, shrew muzzle brake and Kick-EEZ recoil pad. Also had it cerakote painted and put a 4-16x50 Vortex FFP scope on it. Oh did I say I put a little bit of $$ in it? LOL...

Yes, it took down that beast! Now I have to go after a big Coues and want to make sure it is as accurate as possible for long range canyon hunting. If it does not work out I have my eye on a Remington Sendero.

Took my girl for a test drive this morning and she is sub-MOA!

1st Group: .83 MOA, 2.5" high @ 100 yds

2nd Group: 1" MOA 2.5" high @ 100 yds, I pulled the second shot so it is probably ~.75 MOA

3rd Group: .72 MOA, 1.5" high @ 100 yes, I made my last adjustments to bring it down to Barnes 150 GR TTSX ballistic info.

If I don't count the fudge shot on my 2nd group the average would be ~.75 MOA @ 100 yds which is great for this this off the shelf old non-name brand rifle. Shoots very nice.

I also have the P14 Century International Arms Centurion P14 7mm Rem Mag.  My Dad gave it to me as a gift years ago.  I took it to the range and the groups were all over the place.  I took it to a local gun smith to get it looked over.  He ended up remounting the scope and rings to make sure everything was right.  He also glass bedded the stock and free floated the barrel.  Lastly, he installed a Timney trigger.  I went back to the range to see what it could do after upgrades.  I found out that when I got back to the range, all the time, effort and money was well worth it.  It will shoot MOA at 100 yards out.  I now have a great hunting rifle for around $250 dollars in upgrades and alignments.  I will post pictures soon.  Glad to be on the forum.
