Since I DIDN'T get an elk tag!

Recommended Posts

Well since I didn't get an elk or goat tag I am already planning for deer. Just need to make up my mind on where I would like to go. Typically I prefer the little "predictable" grey ghosts but the last couple years I have been trying for a big "elusive" desert muley. Figure we could put some pics up of what we have been seeing the last season and early on this year to get our minds off the tags we didn't get. All of mine are thru binoculars or spotting scope so sorry for the quality. I'll start with a few and put more up after some people join in.

Here are a few desert muley to start with......... The last 2 are coues.

Here are a couple more pics of the previous buck. Look at the size of his body compared to the other buck he was with. Biggest body and antlers I have seen on a desert muley.

I'll add a pic I took during javelina season. The deer in the back is an old timer and his beams were as thick as my wrists. The one in the front was still a bambi, but his antlers were enormous. The young one didn't have mass, but I bet this fall it will be a monster.

The arrows are pointing to the top of the baby deer's rack.

MT_Sourdough.....That old guy carries the mass great. The youngster should be even more of a stud after putting on some more inches this year. Hopefully you can keep track of them and get a tag on one of them. Thanks for adding some pictures to the post.

I think the fact that the antlers were not broken is testimony to how young that young buck is. I bet that old timer showed the prodigal young buck the ropes through this last hunting season. They are 100% public land, but I have only seen them twice and I haven't seen them now for two months, but they wouldn't have antlers now so I wouldn't know them if I saw them. maybe

I won't be hunting these bucks. Unless I take up archery and go after him, but that is not likely this year.

I saw a great WIDE buck in 37b for Javelina season and wish there was an early OTC archery hunt in that unit. It was pure luck though as I drove up on him in the flats.
