  1. Hi Guys. Finally drew a deer tag for Az. somehow the elk Gods have given me 4 tags but never a deer tag. I know this area is mainly a Mule deer area but having never shot one of those little suckers would be very tempting...just wondering what if any opportunities might exist or should I really just focus my efforts on Mule deer? Thanks! Doug

    Off to a good start!

No points as I live in Wyoming...it would take 2-3 pts. for non residents...it is actually on private ground...this unit does not have much public ground with good mulies ( but it does have good w.t.) to get on ground in these units it takes knocking on doors and 200 to 500 dollars for most non residents...living here helps me a lot and I can check the deer out in spring/summer and then work on where to hunt...and yes..sch is FULL leave today for N.M. then back for a day and off to Colorado for Mulies, back for a day and off to N.Y. for W.T. back for 8 days ( going to try and hunt MT for deer if I am alive...) and then off to Kansas for deer! Right Knee operation the week I get back! LOL

Here is a pic of my Mulie that I took this weekend in Wyoming. Has double cheaters on both sides. Heading to Unit 27 on Thursday to try and take one of those little deer with a muzzleloader you guys have out there in N.M....should be interesting!

    I answered your question below...

    Big Wyoming Mulie...

Sorry I tried to post on your question... the key to Wyoming is Points or backpacking...if you build points you can have a great hunt on several units that I know...if you backpack G or H you can have a great hunt but the pressure gets worse every year as we ( residents) buy tags over the counter...there are units (like 119) that have a later hunt and the bucks are rutting and tags are limited so this is a good lower country hunt. The other way is the "know someone" who has a ranch that the hunting is controlled on...I get points in most western states an after a few years I can be kinda picky on where I want to draw a tag..or I will buy a landowner tag when I don't want to burn points...hope that answers your question!

    Gotta love Iowa 2012

The Blind is made by a company called Blind ambition...small company and pricey but after a few days in a field the deer are tototaly comfortable ..again without the blind it would have been very tough to make it happen...

You crack me up! Well I have never hunted those little suckers you guys have in N.M. and we want to see how tough it is. I drew a Unit 27 Muzzleloader tag...now I have a goal of atleast 100 inch deer...This will be a crazy challenge I know, but don't count me out yet! I do have one little advantage...my buddy got us a Gun Werks muzzleloader for the hunt so we can shoot effectively twice as far as most other muzzleloaders...I know not fair but give me a break we have a very short season and we have never been to the unit or hunted this little cridders you call gray ghost...and if they are ghost then we will need all the help we can get! So if anyone has hunted 27 in N.M. and "wants to help a brother out" or better yet tie one to a bush it would be appreciated!
  12. wow that is so sad...why would someone do that?...so sad...
  13. Here is two shots of my black labs Logan who is 6 and Gunner who was 9 months...had a great hunt in Northern Montana opening weekend...I will keep this shots forever as memories like these are very special....

    Wyoming Jan. 2013 Bison

LOL cold was not the word...but it was a dry cold! OK it is amazing how you do this...you split it open like any other animal...cut out the rear part..then you kinda dive in as far as you can and get the wind pipe cut...this is where it gets interesting...you then take your lariat and put it around the wind pipe as far as you can get it down, then you hook it around the horn of the saddle and as the horse pulls you cut underneath the cut the sides inside the cavity... before you know it the whole works comes out...really not too bad...then we had a sled with two horses we jumped on the bison and "drove" the bison to the road...we had a life on the back of a pickup so we could lift and skin ASAP as when it is that cold there is a concern about teh meat spoiling from freezing on the surface and not letting the heat escape! After it was skinned we use the lift to load it into the back of my pickup...I have to tell you it looked pretty funny to have a whole Bison in a short bed pickup! The whole process took about 2 and a half hrs from start to finish...not too bad...if you have the right equipment.
