    Ft. Huachuca Coues

As already mentioned its 80 tags. In my opinion it should be less. That being said I've never not seen a buck during that hunt and still put in for it every year.

Yes if you have a tag and the hunt is still open. There are in fact a lot of lions on post. The lion rules are currently the same as off post. Ft Huachuca falls under the P zone for the quota. They can even Handel the physical check-in if you can get ahold of the right person.

Its a very high pressure hunt. You will most likely encounter a lot of very frustrating human behavior that will make your hunt hard. There are also a lot of extra rules that make it more complicated than hunting off post. In the past few years Ft. Huachcua deer hunts have become much harder than they used to be. That being said success is still possible and there are a lot of good bucks on post. There is no where on Fort Huachuca that coues deer don't live. Scout people not deer. Figure out where hunters aren't going and hunt there. Be fluid with your plans because what ever plan you make will probably be ruined by somebody doing something stupid. Ive had a lot of success on Fort Huachuca in the past. Being out when nobody else is was always the key to tagging out for me. Bad weather days are great. If you play it right and find yourself out there on a day with low hunting pressure you've got a good chance of seeing some awesome deer. Get the Avenza App and map. If you bow hunt try the early archery hunt sometime.

    GOULDS

Congratulations. Cool hunt story. The snake is probably an Arizona Black Rattlesnake.

    Tanning question

Where you most likely went wrong was field care. As already mentioned, this is slipping due to a bacterial infection in the hair follicles. Skin the animal as soon as possible and keep the pelt cool until you get it home. Then flesh and dry it immediately or freeze it in a plastic bag until you can flesh and dry it. The longer you wait to either freeze or dry the pelt the more likely it is to slip.

    Bobcat Mount

Recently got this mount back from Weller's Wildlife Studio in Tucson. Cat was called and taken in February of 2023. They did a great job, it was worth the wait.
  9. From what I understand they are mostly feeding on vegetation this time of year. Permanent water sources in isolated canyons seem to be the key. 5-7000 ft range. Oak and juniper country below the pines. At least that's the impression I'm getting. Just started looking for them last spring so I'm no expert.
  10. They are out there. Found this yesterday.

Where in Sierra Vista is it going to be located?

Don’t know what I am doing

I would second the advice about starting out hunting small game. I think it's the best way to get started in hunting.

    Bobcat
