    Tag Donation

Probably a stupid question, but is it too late to donate my wife's early archery cow tag now that the hunt is half over? Because of the situation with my Mother we will not be going out.

    Polaris Ranger Questions, aftermarket seats

The negative camber CAN be indicative of worn bearings or joints, but can also be due to suspension, tires , etc... Hard to know without looking at it directly. The suspension can be adjusted to compensate. I have never worked on a ranger, but the rods/joints are usually very easy to replace and not expensive. I you are getting a good deal I wouldn't worry about it,. The "issue" is very common. Rossi- That rumor has been around a LOONG time. THey lallygagged banned it in Cali( but heck, they have banned everything but kale salad) nad people have been worried it will eventually carry over to here. May still happen, but nothing hard on it YET. That I know of.

National Forest travel maps-what am I missing?

Sucks when you play by the rules only to get screwed. Sounds like there are two camps here.. One that gets mad that they try to close a road, disregard the rules and drive down any road they find and the other that gets mad at camp 1 for doing it while following the rules. Sad but seems pretty clear that if they want to actually close roads, cables and chains are the only solution.. At least the people driving around a chain can't play stupid. And no doubt, some will do it anyway. They are not only going around chains they are driving OVER the barricades in their jacked up machnes. It is disgusting. and don't get em started about camping near water holes....

    Costco stretch pants

Just bought some a couple weeks ago. They're nice. A little loud but similar to most weatherproof pants. One complaint is the belt loops are insufficient.

    Tag Donation

I just spoke with Tom. He is coming by today to pick it up. Not worried about points, was just frustrated that it might go to waste. It still might but at least we are trying. Thanks guys.

    My Mother

Thank you to all. We spent the day with her in the hospital after being told her liver and kidneys had shut down. She is currently stable, but we have been told she is not coming home from this. We don't know if it is hours or days, but it is in fact her time. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

    Honda Vs. Champion Generator

Like rossi I have no experience with champion but have the Honda. Ithe sits and sits and rarely gets used but starts every time and is quiet.

    16D NM bull not recovered

Unless it bounced off rib/spine that should be a dead bull. Good luck. Always hate hearing about lost bulls.

    Thieves among us.

This is a big fear of mine. I do leave my trailer out as I have to come home for a few days during the hunt. Heart is pounding as I pull in to camp every time.

    Thieves among us.

Out of curiosity did they break in or did he leave it unlocked?

    Coyotes in pines?

Depends on WHERE "up North". If you are on the Rim or anywhere near the areas of heavy human use, you will have a very hard time calling them in. you will SEE them and HEAR them everywhere, but they are some of the most educated and difficult to call coyotes around. If you have garbage can in distress sound on your ecaller go with that.....

    What do you guys think?

I was actually trying to be funny as there really isn't anything he can do about it and should look at it in a positive way. I guess my kids are right...I'm not very funny.

    What do you guys think?

I would have been upset too. But as others have said there is nothing he can do so go out and enjoy another hunt. I guess I should have said I think the other dude is a douche and am ABSOLUTELY not defending the action.

    Terrible Hunter Etiquette times 2

Too many variables to have an opinion on that exact scenario. However, if I came in on another hunter I wouldn't have encroached unless I was "passing through". Not only to be courteous but also due to the fact that I have no desire to hunt an area already being hunted(unless I knew the area well and KNEW there was enough room for more than one and KNEW where the other guy was. Last year on an elk hunt I had only walked 50 feet from my truck when another dude pulled right up next to us and got out with his son. I was a little irritated at first but headed towards them to talk to them. Turns out they had been hitting that same area for the last week chasing a bull they had been scouting for months. They also were headed north and I was headed south so no big deal. We traded game plans as to not step on each other and went hunting. We were both happy and made a new friend. It's a big forest.

    What do you guys think?

I think your buddy is the luckiest SOB on the planet as you got to shoot an elk and morally get to hunt more and shoot another one. Dude needs to put away his butthurt and realize what he has been given. TWO friggin elk hunts for the price of one!

    Good Luck Tomorrow

A decent 6x6 walked across the road right in front of me today. Just sorta sauntered across. Gave me a good stare down and I swear I saw him stick his tongue out at me. They know. Jokes on him though, my wife has a COW tag!

    Last minute advice...

you bring a propane lantern in your pack? My thoughts exactly. I'm rather confused as to how the two of you drew the conclusion the lantern is intended to be carried in a pack. By the time you crammed in all the previously mentioned items, target, multiple sets of boots and sneakers, water proofing spray, gators, a big breakfast, multiple rolls of toilet paper and even a pound of enjoyment in there simply wouldn't be room left for the lantern. It is a handy item to have back at the vehicle if you need to spend hours in the dark boning out an elk. You're gonna chase Elk for miles, kill one, then walk back to your truck for a lantern then back out to the kill? I'll stick with a small flashlight In my experience it is generally easier to move the vehicle to the closest legal point and pack the shortest possible distance. I am also hunting with a partner. The one who shot it starts cutting, the other recovers the vehicle, and brings the lantern, pack frame and anything else needed back to the kill. I only shoot if they're close to the road I only shoot if they're close to FROM the road so I don't have to pack them out. Fixed it for you. We all know. No need to be coy...lol

How many days are you archery elk hunting for??

well that's sad, christine has a tag and we are planning the whole season even if she tags out early can't wait, i'm setting up a spike camp tomorrow. I agree. Normally she is pretty into it but it is very difficult for me to argue with morning sickness....

How many days are you archery elk hunting for??

I am hunting the entire time until my wife fills her tag. My wife wants to hunt exactly zero days. I told her the better she hunts the quicker it is over. I have a feeling it will be "over" quickly.... but not with a filled tag. lol

    Sidearm while backpacking

How/where do you guys carry your sidearm while carrying a pack?

    Scouting

I go back and forth on this. Does the guy with the elk tag take precedence over the guy out there hunting coyotes? If the guy with the elk tag says yes, I wonder what his opinion was 3 weeks earlier when he was scouting for elk in the middle of the early archery deer season.... The forest belongs to everyone regardless of season. I try to have as much "courtesy" as I can and respect what others are doing out there at that time. With that said, I am not going to refrain from enjoying the outdoors just because someone else might be enjoying it in a different way. A few years back I was elk hunting and was muttering about the danged wood cutters that were ruining my hunt. Later that day after I had shot an elk a wood cutter came by and spent 2 hours helping me track, dress, and load my elk. He wasn't out there being selfish trying to ruin my hunt; he was just getting wood for his family during the time he had available to do so. As for the guys out there calling elk when they don't have a tag, I am fine with it. If you are good enough at calling then the elk will not be affected by any other "education" they may be getting. I think it is more about courtesy and respecting others than anything else.
