    Double Down + Bonus!

My Father & drew unit 27 for fall turkey. We headed up The night before and set up camp. The next morning we got up at sun rise and started off to our favorite spots. 20 mins in I spot a flock & a big flock! I crept in and waited for a shot while dad hustled to get into position. Dad said go ahead and shoot if you get one alone. I spot one alone and put it down! The birds decided to boogie, so dad suggested we cut them off around the bend. Great call! They were right there when we got there! Dad picked 1 out & DOUBLE DOWN! Awesome;) We decided to cruise and check our old hunting spots. At one of my favorite area I flushed a Blue Grouse and nailed him with my best shot yet....way out there! Dad left the next morning and I stayed for 5 more days hunting bear & grouse. I didn't realize Dad had taken 1/2 my food! So it was squirell on a spit for dinner for 3 nights!Haha! It was great!

  7. After so many years of trying stick a Coues Buck with a bow it finally happened!! Did a turn and burn trip down south with my buddy Dave. Only had 2 days off work so drove all nite, slept 3 hours, got up & went after'em. 20 mins in I spot two giants, get close enough for a 50yd shot & he jumps the string! They are so fast! It was Dave's 1st time in Coues Country, so he got a real lesson on how difficult with terrain, and wind, and how spooky these deer are to get close to. We saw several does through out the day and I decide to take Dave down a little trail to move quieter. I jump a small buck and I signal Dave to go after him and I'll scoot around and either block or get a shot my self. Well I hear an arrow twang of a rock and a little buck jump behind some cover. This deer had Dave pegged and was actually almost crouching behind a big century plant hiding! I drew back & put my 30yd pin on him, but wasn't comfy with the angle. I slowly took 1 long step left and have him 1/4ing away at 32yds. He focused on Dave & as soon he looks back towards Dave, I drew back. As excited as I was I took a deep breath, settled in, & squeezed my release ( A lesson learned the hard way a couple times, take ur time). The arrow flecthing disappeared in the spot I was aiming & he took off. I creeped up to where he was to find good blood!!!! As I'm looking at the blood I here a little thrashing, 30yrds away there is my buck with one last kick, takes his last breathe! No track job needed! I can't thank my buddy Dave enough for sharing the experience, as I usually hunt alone. I think we got a new one bit by the Coues Bug! He had such a blast, I'll be taking him out 2nd archeryseason I also got to donate my rifle tag to www.oe4a.org too, which is awesome!

    Fly Fishing all over CO:)

I finally got a vacation in the summer time!! My fam goes to Almont,CO every year, but because I'm in the marina industrustry....kinda hard to get away in the summer. This I fly fished everywhere Durango, Montrose, Ouray, Silverton, Gunnison, Crested Butte, and every out of the way creek & beaver ponds I could find. It was a much needed break in a stream waving a stick I've attached a few underwater pics of a couple nice Colorado Cutthroats and a lil Brook Trout. Almost all dry fly fishing too! It was awesome!

I drew Unit 21 Rifle Javy this year! Stoked! First time in 21, always fun checkin out new territory;)
  16. I went with the big caliber in hopes of getting better at shooting longer distances in the future. I'm not quite there yet. I wanted a rifle that has the knock-down power for elk, bear, mulies, coues, and speed goats. Figured the 300 ultra would have all those bases covered and once I'm ready, this should be a good caliber for those longer pokes. Need the advantage too........Still aint no cure for buck fever
  17. Considering a new scope for my Rem .300 ultra mag ADL. Been looking at a vortex 6-20x50 and a Barska 8-26x50. I'm not very educated in the scope field. I'm not a crazy long range shooter...max for me is 300 yds give or take. I need to build a little confidence to shoot out far. Looking at these two scopes what I want is: EASY TO USE!, good warranty, and durability ( you know coues country ) Anybody know bout these 2 scopes? Experience in the field with them? Any help is always appreciated. Just wanna make sure I can make a good, comfy, one-shot-drop when it's time
  18. Got the Vortex in the mail Thanks again fellas!
  19. Now That's why I love this site! Great info guys and thanks for the help. I'll be stayin away from Barska. Also thought twice about the 6-20 power. I'm really not lookin to shoot way out there, so like suggested ,gonna save the money and pass on the dial ups and big power......for now anyways I think I'm gonnna go with the Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40.
  20. Got the Nov. 25-Dec 1st hunt in 29. I have never hunted the late season in the Chiri's. I assume it will still be too warm to expect much rut activity. Should I concern myself with attractant scents, rattling, or any other "rut hunt" paraphenalia? I've taken 2 trips down to scout and have a couple ideas of where I need to be. Anybody have experience with the late season in 29?
