Hey everyone, I'm planning a turkey hunting trip in New Mexico (last minute) as my Washington plans just fell through today... Hoping to get some general recommendations from y'all.. Specifically, I'm looking for advice on areas to hunt/camp. I'm open to any suggestion, not looking for someone's spot just a point in the right direction, so i can start browsing on onX. Please don't hesitate to share any experiences and recommendations. Thanks in advance for your help!

I was in 23 this weekend turkey hunting, tagged out by the way. I found a brand new blind and 2 chairs in it , all equipment was new , the blind was located about 40yrds of the rd. i don't get it , i have many tree stands and blinds stolen that were way back in the middle of nowhere, i left it alone because someone steals from me dosen't mean i should steal from somebody else. but i can't believe someone would leave $300 worth of stuff in the wide open. and we never seen any hunters, i'm shore its been there for more then 72 hrs. what kind of bozo would do this.

Heard 1 gobbler yesterday morning at 7am and 2 this morning from 8 to 9 am. Two different areas in 5A. Haven't had any luck with owl calls before sunup. Yesterday's gobbler responded to a slate call, I moved on and tried to locate some more with no luck. I heard the first one this morning when I was checking a waterhole, 8:15AM. Then the second was a mile from that one and he answered a slate call, 8:45AM. What is everyone else experiencing? Love hearing Gobblers!

Didn't have a tag this year but talked a friend into bringing his son up to try our luck with the turkeys. Heard gobbling every morning but always something would happen that prevented us from sealing the deal. Here's a short video of some of our experiences.

My Father & drew unit 27 for fall turkey. We headed up The night before and set up camp. The next morning we got up at sun rise and started off to our favorite spots. 20 mins in I spot a flock & a big flock! I crept in and waited for a shot while dad hustled to get into position. Dad said go ahead and shoot if you get one alone. I spot one alone and put it down! The birds decided to boogie, so dad suggested we cut them off around the bend. Great call! They were right there when we got there! Dad picked 1 out & DOUBLE DOWN! Awesome;) We decided to cruise and check our old hunting spots. At one of my favorite area I flushed a Blue Grouse and nailed him with my best shot yet....way out there! Dad left the next morning and I stayed for 5 more days hunting bear & grouse. I didn't realize Dad had taken 1/2 my food! So it was squirell on a spit for dinner for 3 nights!Haha! It was great!

We thought that we would share some pictures from our recent Goulds turkey hunts in Sonora, Mexico. Our hunters went five for five on the beautiful Goulds turkey. My hunt last week was a grind! From 4:00 AM till dang near midnight, hiking, driving and calling all day, with dang near zero action can start to wear on ya! I covered both sides of my unit, back and forth, checking for tracks and callin with very little to show for my efforts. The tracks were scarce and the gobbles were almost non-existent! I only heard 2 toms gobble during the whole hunt! 1 was on the first morning and he would only gobble once every 15-20 minutes and seemed like he was running as fast as I was! I accidentally ended up right on top of that bird and bumped him out of there. The second gobble I heard was yet again, another bird that I didn't know was there until he shock gobbled at me, basically just lettin' me know the game's over! I finally found a tank that had a few tracks on it and decided I would just set up there and call very sparingly with my decoy out and hope for the best. After about an hour I could hear cluckin' and puttin' from down in the canyon behind the dam of the tank. I hit the box call a few times and could hear them coming faster. Finally I see three birds top out and come in to my decoy! I knew right away that none of them were the long beard gobbler I had dreamed about, but at that point, being burned out and not wanting to spend another night in back of my truck, all I needed was a visible beard and lead was gonna fly! The birds came in and started pecking and posturing around my decoy which was very cool to watch and the biggest one actually did a semi-strut as he was coming in so that got me a little more excited. After getting bored with the decoy, the birds lined out broadside in front of me at 12 yards. The one in the middle had the longest beard, which isn't sayin' much, but it was plenty long enough for me at that point, so, I decided he was going home with me! I had the GoPro camera mounted on the barrel and it slightly obstructs the sights making it difficult to be pin point accurate. I didn't think I'd be shooting this close so didn't worry about it, but now, with a 12 yard moving shot and an extra full choke, I learned very quick that this bird might not be going home with me after all! I missed the first two shots before realizing what was going on so I made the last round count and pounded him on the run. So, all in all i had a blast as usual. It's always a thrill hearing gobbles, even if it's just a couple, and having any turkey up close is always exciting as well. I found some sheds and also snuck up to a bear and got some great video of him on my big camera but I ended up breaking that camera and can't upload the video yet, I'll post it up when I can!
