A Ruger Hawkeye should be the M77 action. It should be a good rifle.
-
My kid should be on the larger side so he may be able to go straight to a full size, at least that is my hope.

I will be headed down this road in a few years for my older son most likely. He is right handed but left eye dominant. He also can only keep his left eye open individually so I think he will end up shooting lefty.

Savage makes the model 11 in a lefty compact in 7-08.

Nice bulls. What unit is that?

For a dedicated coues gun I think a fast .224 would be fine. If I was going to build a deer rifle for all deer including bigger muley, I would look to .243 something at a minimum.

I figured, but I thought I would ask. I will pass for now on those. -
I had to take a break for about 6 weeks off. A couple weeks for my knee to heal that I twisted while rolling, and then to go on my Kaibab deer hunt. I got back in the groove last week and cant wait til the days I get to train. I have a huge advantage as a giant human, but I am still learning alot, and know so little. 160lb dude that is flexible like gumby with a good guard is my kryptonite. If it wasn't for my size, and some wrestling experience from high school I would be totally drowning. I love the challenge though.

All 4 boxes of 6.5 bullets for $25? If so I will take those. -
My sporterized Swede likes 140gr bullets, but it used to shoot the 120gr really well too.

They have done such a great job marketing them that I have never heard of them, let alone shot them...

Favorite Bullet for Coues?
Hoss50 replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have not used either on a coues, but both have worked well on big game for me and would be what I would shoot at a coues when I hunt them next. .257 cal 115gr Berger HVLD (.257 Weatherby - 1 Cow Elk @ 270 yards) 6.5 cal 135gr Berger Classic Hunter (6.5x55 - 2 mule deer. 1 @ 40 yards, 1 @ 250 yards) -
6.5x55 is a good round. A decent scope and a timney trigger and that will be a good old hunting rig. My dad has a sporterized model 96 in 6.5x55 and it was his favorite deer rifle. I am working on that rifle for my sons right now. My deer rifle is a CZ in 6.5x55. It is a great round that is highly underrated.

I will take them. How soon do you need them gone? I might be able to get my co-worker who lives in Whittman to pick them up for me if you need them gone right away.

D Don't do anything dangerous or unsafe if it is supposed to get real bad, but you will never know where it will push the elk unless you go find out. You sure won't get an opportunity to shoot an elk on your couch. Even if you road hunt some and do some recon trying to find the movement patterns, you will know more after the experience then if you never have the experience.

Go back if you can.

Professional Exterminators. My family has used Randy since I was kid. I am 35 now and he is still our bug guy. He is also a hunter. (623) 486-7661

Sad to hear he missed the hunt, but glad to hear he is home and ok. lv2hunt on here is part of hunts for heros.
-
Randalls will do them for a reasonable price.

Is it the cow tag again? If so I am sure you have a good idea of what you are doing. I haven't been up there this year, but if I had to go tomorrow I would start in the area I met you a few years ago. That or where I got mine a few years ago if there is water.

PM sent. We need drivers in west Phoenix. They typically drive 24' stake beds. They work M-F 6am to 2:30pm.

I dont know if 6a is the same as 7e, but in 7e I used to see more bulls at lower elevations then where I would see the cows. Harley

Pro diesel is a good shop in Phoenix.

I am trying to figure out an accuracy issue. The problem is typically on the 3rd shot of a 3 shot group I am getting a flier. Shot 1 and 2 are acceptably close, and the 3rd shot can be an inch or two away, of even worse. The gun is a CZ 550 full mannlicher style stock in 6.5x55. All stock with a leupold vx6 2-12 scope. Part of the problem I think is the loads are touching the land for group/pressure testing. When I shoot factory ammo I still have the same issue, but since they are not right at the lands it doesn't seem quite as pronounced but still shows up. Is this just a product of having full stock with a thin barrel on a hot day? I let the barrel cool between 3 round groups. Thoughts?
