Before I subject myself the scammer-palooza that is Craigslist, I wanted to drop this on the board for anyone who may be looking. After a two year wait, the new ride is here and I don't have the room to park everything so Im selling my 2012 Lariat 4X4. 5.8L v8 with 143k miles Fully loaded Lariat package including sun roof and heated/cooled seats. Everything works great as she was a daily driver. 295/70R18 toyo open country with plenty of miles left. It does have the 6 1/2 bed. Leather on driver side seat is starting to wear through and a crack has developed on the console. With the scorching earth temps coming and the draw a ways off I thought I'd share some walk about photos from the early part of the year since I wont be going back in for awhile. While waiting for the fog to lift during a cold day in January, I glassed up this little treasure precariously perched on a small hillside. Being that is was a canyon over and I was standing in 8" of snow, I left it until the spring. Spring rolls around, it gets hot and sheer cliff shed hunting is way harder than it looks. We had an idea of its location but it took some doing to find it. Sneaky sucker this one.. Finally liberated it from its hillside prison...... Sadly, based on its condition, about five years too late. After the rescue mission, we noticed some gang signs from the OG hunters. A few more One of my favorites some obligatory ATLs to finish the trip Not a huge haul. Always find cool stuff in those hills. Daaamn sure wouldn't want to actually kill a bull in there without access to a Chinook and a seasoned pilot but, its nice to visit. Be safe out there and thanks for looking Dave

I've owned this truck since 2002- gave it to my daughter in high school and it got her through college. Now that she has a big girl job, she's ready to retire the Ford-a-saurus. As stated in the title: 1997 ford F250 4x4 with the 7.3 powerstroke diesel. Automatic transmission. 313k miles. Has some blemishes but all and all she's a good ol' truck. within the last 18 months we've replaced the HPOP, AC compressor, and glow plugs. To begin, there is no perfect pack. Like anything else its gotta work for you- I had determine what was most importanat to me and and after months of research I decided on the Dragon Slayer by Mystery Ranch. My number one factor was comfort- I'm built like a trekking pole with shoulders and until now I had not been able to find a pack that didn't either destroy my hips or my shoulders. I have to say, no matter what pack you have- if it doesn't have a yoke adjustment, throw it away. Until you get a pack that fits right, you have know idea what you've been missing. The Dragon Slayer is a 2300cu/in internal frame pack. The lid of the pack has two stacked zippered compartments. The top pocket is relatively small but compartmented (if thats even a word) to hold a mini-flash lights, calls, GPS or any other quick need items. the lower lid pocket is large and has a mesh bottom. Not entirely sure what the purpose of that is but gloves, hats, knifes fill the space well. The Y-zipper configuration is brilliant. makes everything easily accessible. It is hydration bladder compatible, if you so desire. and laid out with a mesh pocket, sleeve pocket and long pockets on each flap. Down side to the pocket configuration for me is I like everythinng to have a place- i'd like a few more individual pockets but the MOLLE webbing panel allows some freedoms with the number of pouches available in the market place. So you never REALLY know how a pack will perform until you stress it and yourself- Since this past Saturday was the first July day that I can remember that would allow a grinder without ultimate death I took advantage of it. The pack weighed in at 30lbs which included everything I'd take on a hunt and a few extra items just to have. The hike ended up being slightly over 6 miles with a 1600' elevation jump in the first 1.34 mi. view from the truck to the peak A 1/2 mile in, a cedar tree started barking at me and these little fellas were eyeing me Then mama roostered up and had every intention jamming her bug diggers into my eye sockets- and loud, sweet mother of god She followed me around the tree yelling the whole way until I was out of sight- I guess if I had five kids, I'd be a littel cranky too so I don't blame her After narrowly escaping with my life I pushed on and was greeted with this view from the top. The reason I picked this run was a spring I had stumbled onto in a registery and it didn't disappoint As with most everywhere, someone always has been there before you The pack performed flawlessly- I haven't had a pack on in 6 months so when conditioning begins my shoulders and/or hips take a few days to recover. I woke up this morning with only aching calves. It floats while its on with zero pressure points and definatley has the capacity to more than handle your gear plus any deer sized game (boned or quartered). i'd wager an elk quarter wouldn't put up much of fight if you can get it tied on. Mystery Ranch has a reputation for being expensive and if you are looking into the pack frame systems yes they are. their internal frame packs however are comparable to most decent off the shelf packs but the quality of it is second to none. Whether hunting or hiking this pack is no joke- it'll make that last mile so much easier. Dave

Lets try this again with a reduced price. Long story short- Nearly tore my foot off a couple of years ago and now my feet are different sizes, which isn't as much fun as it sounds. I was able to finally find a boot that fits properly but have some experimentals that I need to get rid of. First: Kenetrek Hardscrabble SZ 11W. Fit my Right foot perfectly but just couldn't get me left heal to seat. Close to 10mi on these boots. $225obo Second: Zamberlin 960 Guide GTX Sz 10- these were a dream for my left foot, not so much for my Flinstone-esque right. Settled on the median size of my feet. Went with the Crispi Summit which is a slightly less stout boot and helped a ton in eliminating the slop. Trial and error is slightly annoying but more costly than anything. I know they say to give Kenetreks a 50 mile break in time BUT, stacking thick socks and a liner on one side isnt worth it to me. They are a wide so anyone who has had toe box issues in the past should slide into these no problem. Hunts are coming quick boys. Get'em now and give yourself time to break them in..... Any reasonable offer will be considered..... Dave

Took a small hike to check a camera one last time before the mother nature drops the heat hammer. This is a new spot so I wasn't sure what would show up.... no giants but, I was pleasantly surprised. Thanks for the replies, boys. Simple answer to the question- it was just a random placement. Long answer- I knew there are a few good bucks roaming around but glassed this up not too long ago Had no idea there were that many elk wandering around. After a bit of soul searching, I made the walk to get the shed. Took the better part of 5hours to get in out. But in the end, it was worth it I suppose. Took a different route the last time and found this on my way in been trying to find where those dang elk come from since. I think Im in half decent shape but, that terrain hurts just walking a straight line. it really takes your manhood if you're randomly walking around. Was hoping to restrict the coverage area but apparently I'll be going in with multiple purposes covering a lot more ground from here on out. Dave

Well that was fun- After spending most of the summer scouting for my 2016 archery hunt, I came away with some very valuable lessons about Unit 27 First: there is a lot more to the unit than the 403 road Most of it will punch you in the soul. But some parts will save it Second: Whether live or on memorex- Bears are alway entertaining Third: Elk can be A-holes And also Magnificent Fourth: Proper shot placement helps eliminate the whole joy of tracking Fifth: Its good to be lucky And finally: Nothing better than a successful drive home Big thanks to my brother, Curt! The 5 hour pack out would have been significantly longer without you, amigo. To those who asked- I really don't think the early rifle hunt affected the archery hunt as much as the weather and crowds. I certainly wouldn't want it to be a permanent thing- but every few years isn't as terrible as it may sound. Thanks for looking. Dave
