Below is the pay scale, for comparison most valley departments now start at about 83-87k on year one and federal law enforcement in az will pretty much make 130k with LEAP pay (minus BP) within 6-8 years. So anyone who is qualified will go to other agencies. Sure there are a few who truly love the job and are probably smart and highly motivated individuals, but in the end you get bottom of the barrel applicants for bottom of the barrel pay. My point is it’s a poorly run agency because they don’t want to pay for high performers. High performers are at other agencies making double the pay with far more opportunity.
