Unit 8/10 Spring Turkey

Recommended Posts

My first time spring turkey hunting for 2025. I have the gear and calls. I am OK with them and practicing. I have my shotgun and picked up some TSS shot that I will pattern.

What's the secrets for success in AZ for finding and killing them? I saw turkey several times while on my elk hunt in Unit 8, and will scout around there. Other than that I'm going in green to have an adventure.

What do you like to do?

Almost all of my turkey hunting has been in 8. I like to drive around before the hunt and look for tracks to locate flocks. The worst part about turkey season is the wind. If you have a day without wind that is the day to hunt. My son and I will be out for the youth hunt this year. Last year we got on a few but never could make it happen. I learned from my buddies dad years ago to hunt all day. Most guys go back to camp for lunch and a nap but he will stay out all day. Good luck! The only turkeys I have seen in the last few  months are down low but I would think they will move higher before the hunt.

Up high on 122 just past the old burn . Back in by the hidden pond. Lots of turkey and wood ducks on the pond. Beautiful place back in there.

I had a great time. Drove up, woke up opening morning and a local drove by and asked if I had a tag. He was out scouting, and we both had heard birds right next to camp. He was big into turkeys, and I asked if he wanted to show me the ropes for a minute. We walked out of camp about 150 yards and sat down. He called a few times. I shot my bird in about 15 minutes…

I was near Round Mountain.
