With having the ports closer to the chamber do you lose any velocity? Generally speaking just wondering.  I got a hellcat pro I wanna get done but I'm thinking close to the barrel and moving the iron sight back...

Of Course. Negligible at handgun velocities.

Actually have never looked at speed on any hand gun ive owned, I just shoot groups and steel and it either is there or its not. I can certainly test it but I dont see a need.

The ports are actually sealed by the bullet as it travels out, the little bit of gas passing the bullet is no longer pushing it anyway so my uneducated guess would be no loss at all. I do plan to test recoil which there is plenty of info on but each design and port size has little differences. I went on the low end as far as port size so I can open them up later.  Need to get some slow mo shots from the side before and after.

Looking at grouping is what i really want to see. I dont shoot the 40 near as tight as the 9mm.

When I tested multiple handguns that I have had ported barrels on, they are usually around 60 ft/sec. Slower after being ported. The highest number I saw was 100 ft/sec as a  loss. None significant enough to matter for a handgun and no accuracy loss either. Hope this helps, but interested to see what your before and after muzzle velocities are ?

Testing day, 9mm 2 port and 40cal 3 port.
the 9mm was a slightly lighter recoil but the 40cal was very nice reduction in recoil. Cut my groups in half at least.
high increase in decibels as well on both.

fps on the 9mm stock G17 was 1120

fps on the 2 port was 1080

fps on stock G22 was 1040

fps on the 3 port G22 was 980
