Taxidermy restoration

Recommended Posts

I was recently given a couple of pronghorn mounts after my grandparents passed, I’m just looking for some tips to clean one of them up. The older one was killed in 1955 and spent the next 70 years in their T.V. room where it was constantly subject to cigarette smoke. The other was killed in 1995 and still looks pretty good (other than being shot to heck by my grandpa)… The older buck is pretty fragile, the hair falls out really easily. Is it worth it to try to clean it, and how would you go about that or should I just leave it as is? Thanks for any help

I would consider remounting the older one.
Today’s taxidermy advancements will do justice to the buck.

The hardest part would be finding a cape. Although I understand that the original mount may have sentimental value.

I HIGHLY recommend you call Josh Todd with McDowell Mountain Taxidermy.  He does a great job with restorations.
