Black River Smallmouth?

Thinking about hitting the black river for smallmouth. Used to go a lot . Haven’t been in at least 15 years. Would like to go before the rains come. Anybody been out there lately? Any changes? Thanks for any info .

I’ve been going at least once a year for as long as i can remember. We still have a good time but it is NOTHING like it used to be. In the last 10 years or so, every year has been a little worse than the one prior. Lots of people and it seems like most of them keep every dam fish they catch. Can’t remember the last time i caught a smallmouth that would break 2lbs out of the black.

You can catch some pretty good smallmouth . On the verde . At sheep's crossing. I've taken a few over 3 out of there lots of 1 to 1.5 . Throwing a panther martin. And that's the only place I have even seen fire fly's in AZ.

It’s too much work to go catch a bunch of 6 - 8 inch fish

I have been there two times over last five years and never experienced anything close to the stories I used to hear about the quantities of fish people would catch back in the day.  We usually go sometime during the first couple weeks of June.
