Marlin 32-40 education

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I am looking for information regarding a Marlin 32-40 black powder that my Father in law was kind enough to leave me. As you can see (hopefully) from the photos, it was made in New Haven, Connecticut. Not sure of the date of manufacture?  Octagon barrel that is heavy. What is the going price on a gun like this?  Any information or history on these rifles is appreciated.
Thank you,
bill

Did you contact Marlin directly or a Marlin Owners Forum? GOOGLE is your friend for things like current prices.

I know nothing about these but gunbroker has the price all over the place so hard to tell. Your gun appears to be in good shape and the octagon barrel would make it more valuable I believe. A quick Google search says it may have been manufactured in 1916-1917. How long is the barrel? Does it say for black powder on it or does it say special smokeless steel somewhere on it?

My thoughts exactly.  I know you can run SNs on Winchester's website to get a manufacturing year, and I've called Remington and Browning customer service to get info on older shotguns I have.  I would think Marlin would be able to get you everything you need to know about that rifle.

Thank you all for the replies. I was lazily hopeful that someone on CWT had one of these and could tell me all about it without having to do any meaningful research myself! 😂

Coues, It does say black powder. Thank you for the link. Not sure on the barrel length?  I will reach out to Marlin and see what they have to say.

regards,
bill
