Bowman1964 Report post Posted April 2 Hey guys, I am looking for information regarding a Marlin 32-40 black powder that my Father in law was kind enough to leave me. As you can see (hopefully) from the photos, it was made in New Haven, Connecticut. Not sure of the date of manufacture? Octagon barrel that is heavy. What is the going price on a gun like this? Any information or history on these rifles is appreciated. Thank you, bill
PRDATR Report post Posted April 2 Did you contact Marlin directly or a Marlin Owners Forum? GOOGLE is your friend for things like current prices.
Coues247 Report post Posted April 2 I know nothing about these but gunbroker has the price all over the place so hard to tell. Your gun appears to be in good shape and the octagon barrel would make it more valuable I believe. A quick Google search says it may have been manufactured in 1916-1917. How long is the barrel? Does it say for black powder on it or does it say special smokeless steel somewhere on it? https://www.gunbroker.com/collectible-firearms/search?keywords=marlin 1893 32-

I know you can run SNs on Winchester's website to get a manufacturing year, and I've called Remington and Browning customer service to get info on older shotguns I have. I would think Marlin would be able to get you everything you need to know about that rifle.
Bowman1964 Report post Posted April 3 Thank you all for the replies. I was lazily hopeful that someone on CWT had one of these and could tell me all about it without having to do any meaningful research myself! 😂 Coues, It does say black powder. Thank you for the link. Not sure on the barrel length? I will reach out to Marlin and see what they have to say. regards, bill
Couzer Report post Posted April 3 Made in 1914-1915 end of pre World War I.
Coues247 Report post Posted April 3 From my few minutes of research, Marlin doesnt have exactly dates or information about these guns. If it says black powder, but was made in 1915ish then the internet says its a grade b model. I've seen several online that sold or are for sale for $4-$5k. But without knowing all the details of what it is, the value of yours could be much less. Hopefully it's one of the expensive ones!
