I think this qualifies as "miscellaneous" but probably not "related to Coues Deer." It's an article about those new-fangled emergency beacons and calls them "Yuppie 911" because people hit the button when they get uncomfortable as opposed to when they really need rescuing. One group hit the button 3X on one trip and after the 3rd helicopter showed up they were escorted aboard involuntarily. Oh, and there's also the wilderness version of "butt dialing" where the beacon gets accidently activated on a pack. Anywho, here it is:

Could be a great tool but like anything else

it will be abused.

Seems that maybe they could set up some kind of

user contract that allows its use for curtain circumstance

And the user would be responsible for rescue fees in others.

 

I would also think they could have it to where you could type in

a message as to the type of problem and then could receive a

return message.

 

Glad they jerked those three idiots of the canyon trail for what they did

and hope they make them pay the cost.

Them Helos aint cheap to fly and you know who payed for it

It will only be a matter of time before agencies start issuing fines for circumstances that, could and should, be classified as "non emergency". Similar to the stupid motorist law.

 

It looks like these people(hikers) that probably have no business being in tough situations, are using the beacon as a crutch, or fail safe way to call in the troops if they accidentally stub their toe!

 

They pushed the panic button because the water they found "tasted kind of salty". Where do stupid people like this come from?
