Sportsmen’s Constituent Group, letter from Steering Committee...

Recommended Posts

Below is a copy of the letter that was sent out via email to the email addresses that were on file from the two SCG meetings.

So far a lot has been accomplished as far as getting like minded individuals to volunteer their time for the betterment of this state and it's wildlife. I am so very proud of each and everyone of the people that have volunteered thus far! -Chef

Sportsmen’s Constituent Group

Greetings,

You are receiving this email because you have supplied your email address at one of the SCG meetings.

Since our last meeting on May 8th, the volunteers for the Steering Committee have met twice at the

Arizona Game and Fish Headquarters with another meeting scheduled this month.

Through these meetings, we have accomplished a great deal for the foundation of this organization:

Formed four sub-committees based on input from comments submitted by you during the initial

meetings and determined to be of the highest priority:

  • Legislative Affairs

Lead – Don McDowell

Co-Lead – Scott Corporon

Volunteer – Jack Barnes

  • Department Issues

Lead – Phil Cramer

Co-Lead – Gene Owens

Volunteers – Jerry Douthit and Steve Craig

  • Inclusiveness

Lead – Allen Taylor

Co-Lead – Randy Burton

Volunteer – Jeff Williamson

  • Communications

Lead – Hector Albarran

Co-Lead – Dana Stoneberger

Volunteers – Marshall McFarlane and Perry Chisum

The Legislative Affairs sub-committee will be tasked with: reviewing legislation; analyzing the

impact on conservation; informing SCG members and other sportsmen of upcoming issues

and communicating with our legislators.

The Department Issues sub-committee will be tasked with: collecting concerns from SCG members

and affiliated/unaffiliated sportsmen about issues under the purview of the Arizona Game and Fish

(hunt guidelines, bonus points, habitat stamps, THE DRAW, etc.); provide input to the department

and receive department response; provide a two-way communication portal for sportsmen and

voice our views to the Commission on significant issues.

The Inclusiveness sub-committee will be tasked with: working to identify conservation related

issues common to different segments of outdoor related recreationalist; seek to build a coalition

of the willing with organizations not traditionally part of SCG (e.g. OHV groups, watercraft groups,

birding groups); and work with segments of industry affected by these issues.

The Communications sub-committee will be tasked with: work with the Inclusiveness sub-committee

to establish a liaison with other sportsmen groups; create and maintain an email-list and a web

presence for information dissemination, education and communication to all interested parties

(affiliated and unaffiliated).

All of the sub-committees have already begun work on their tasks. In addition, we have secured

website hosting (huge thanks to Amanda at Coueswhitetail.com) and we have an up and running

email address. We are working on the website and will notify you when we roll it out.

The Steering Committee is also producing a draft of by-laws for the organization. This draft will be

sent to you before the end of the month for your review. Please take a few minutes to look this over

and provide any comments.

The Steering Committee would like thank the Arizona Game and Fish Department,

Commissioner Kurt Davis, Deputy Director Gary Hovatter, Craig McMullen

(Wildlife Recreation Branch Chief), Leonard Ordway (Assistant Director of Field Operations),

Ben Alteneder (Community and Congressional Relations), Christine Smith (Steering Committee)

and Paul Cormany (Steering Committee) for their support.

If you know of anyone that would be interested in our organization and receiving future emails,

please direct them to http://scginfo.com/ or email us at info@scginfo.com.

Stay tuned for more information and please spread the word about our organization.

The success or failure of SCG will depend on what you do.

Thank you for your support and your valuable input.
