    Carbon fiber tripods (not mine)

I have a CF Manfrotto. Had it for years and a lot of miles in the pack and thousands of hours under my optics. Also have an aluminum Manfrotto I bought for a truck rider and for family members to use after one of them dropped my 15x56s over on an elk hunt on one of their cheap camera tripods. This sounds like a good, less expensive option. I would love a second CF tripod. I assume it has the same threaded post to mount a head of your choice?

    Same Buck?

Looks like the same buck to me too. That is awesome. Mass looked better last year. The effects of the lack of rain probably. He looks like he is in his prime years though. Great buck.

    Glassing question

I never "glass" with a spotter. I use mostly my 10x42s on a tripod for anything under 1-1.5 miles out. I use my 15x56s on a tripod for 1-3+ miles out. I only break out the spotter when I find something I need to take a better look at. I prefer a straight spotter personally.

    Looks Like a Cold one!

Was up in 7W last week looking for some bulls for a couple hunters, and it was 18 at first light, but warmed up to long sleeve t-shirt weather by 10AM. Super dry, about 3/4 of the tanks were bone dry. Saw some great bulls. Total of 12 in half a day. Rain forecasted for opening day, snow after that. Good luck to the late hunters. The cold will be a great change.

    Kimber mountain ascent rifle

I have shot a few Kimber Mountain Ascent rifles. One was in .280AI. It shot fine. About .6MOA once load work was complete. As others have said, shooting a light rifle takes a lot more consistency to make them perform up to their ability. It is not the rifle, but the shooter. They are absolutely fantastic to carry in the mountains however. At 5lbs 10oz for the chambering you want, they are fine. Add Talley Lightweight rings and a light scope, you will be sub 8lbs all in. Maybe closer to 7lbs if you go really light. Now the .280AI.....what can I say. There has been a big boom in that round since Nosler started making headstamped brass. I love mine. Load something in a 160-180 grain bullet around 2850-3000, and you are good to shoot elk about as far as you would want with the light rifle. 700-800 easily. As long as YOU can shoot that far accurately. My .280AI is 8lbs 13oz all in. My lightest big game hunting rifle. Plenty heavy to shoot accurately, but light enough to comfortably carry it all day. About 1-1.5# heavier than yours will end up being. Leave one water bottle, or a sweatshirt out of your pack, and you will be packing the same weight as the Kimber. But I prefer a bit more weight gain to allow for a top end build and glass

    Canyons or flats?

If 2 hours behind optics hurts your eyes, you need better optics for western hunting. I spend 10+ hours behind glass most days scouting and hunting with no eye fatigue.

    Canyons or flats?

Get high, glass down into the flats at first legal shooting light and last light. Seems like desert mulies like places where they are hard to see or get to. Meaning....all over....and away from roads.

S&S Wall Systems. Aaron Simmons is a great person, even better drywall guy, and a fantastic 7 year sober Christian. Had to throw that out, as I am super proud of him for that accomplishment.

*SOLD* Remington Sendero 264WM TACK DRIVER!

I will vouch for this rifle. i still can't believe he is selling it. Absolute tack driver. I think round count is right about 65-70 at most. Seller is a bit of a nut case.
