Cleaning a Muzzleloader

Recommended Posts

Google the heck out of it and come up with an hours worth of info in 20 seconds. It can't be that hard and way faster than waiting around for it on here.

Powder will make a difference  in what you can clean with.  Pyrodex  and most pellets  are corrosive  and need blackpowder  only cleaning  products.  If your  running  blackhorn  you can use your normal  gun cleaning  stuff  as it's not corrosive  and the powder  will  not get fouled  with  the little  bit of oil on a patch you'd run at the end .

I have nothing to say on the subject, just glad to see a new post in this forum after several months.  Of course ranting about the cost of Blackhorn 209 is always good for a coversation starter.

Cva has a foam cleaner . I usually  put a old ear plug in one end of the barrel and let it work for 20 to 30 minutes  . Then you can run brush and patches.  There are alot of black powder  only  cleaners . The tc brand bore lube is good  . It looks like toothpaste  and smells  good.  Remember  no standard  gun cleaners as most will  foul the barrel  and cause miss fires.
