I was in 23s with my son. We went up Sunday afternoon. It started raining Sunday night and didn't really quit til Monday night (over 2 inches in that time). We hunted Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday. It was tough. Tuesday nothing was moving, Wednesday was marginally better, but still windy. Thursday was calm, but we couldn't get on anything. He had the deer and elk tag. We saw everything but.

1 black bear

3 coyotes

18 doe

1 6x6 bull elk

12-15 miles hiked.

Very frustrating to be honest. Had the rain not come, I am confident we probably would have gotten a deer, and maybe a cow. We walked out empty.

My younger son and I are headed up Thursday night for his hunt in the same area for deer along with 2 others.

We normally hunt farther south. Before the storm in scouting when water was scarce we were seeing deer and cow elk regularly because we knew where they had to go.

After the rains it let them get water wherever they wanted and the hot areas we had scouted got really cold.

We explored more areas though and found some more travel routes/areas so hopefully one of the tag holders this weekend can zero in on a Buck.

I am going to have to start working on scouting cows more in the north 1/2 of the unit. The area we have had success over the years is drying up some i think. The cow quantity is down, and rhe bull quality is down too.
