Where the heck are the bucks?! (36B)

Recommended Posts

I had the mid Nov hunt in 34a. Tons of does and two decent bucks that were gone in a flash. You've probably heard the saying,  Couldn't grow horns on em." Well I did. Looked hard enough at a yearling still on mommy's hip at about 50 yards then looked again with my 12xs. Sure enough, little fellow had 1 small horn maybe 2" tall lol. As bad as I wanted to make jerky this fall, I gave the runt a pass. Wish I had taken his Pic.

Do they move youth hunts every so often? They put one in 37b a while back and now they put a December rifle hunt which is idiotic in my opinion, hopefully they move them every few years

The December rifle hunts for mule deer generally rotate through the region.

I think the 37B youth hunt is here to stay.

Don’t forget the youth and Dec hunts. More like 25-2700. That game manager only manages that unit to kill every 2pt every year.

So he manages that unit to what the hunt guidelines say to manage it to? Terrible

Saved the trouble of finding it for everyone and here's the link where they say 36b is just an opportunity unit. Starts on page 9 for deer

2700 tags for 10 straight years and 2 of the last 3 with bad fawn crops I would say has as much to do with it as anything.

I 100% agree. Way too many tags and the lack of rain (or ill-timed rain) has hurt fawn production and survival. I was there in Nov. and saw many does without fawns, a couple does with 1 fawn, and only one doe with twin fawns. On a "good" year, I see many does with twin fawns.

If we kill off all the animals they don't have to manage them. Any deer on Yellow jacket or Frugata peak.
