It was my grandfathers and hasn't been out of the cabinet in 10 years. My grandmother got it for him when ww2 ended and he got back safely. I was all set to be like my trendy brothers and get a prc, but then I got this idea.
yotebuster Report post Posted 16 hours ago I wouldn’t go much over 165 with that twist. If you wanna make it a long range rifel the three most important things are 1: trigger (absolute number 1, finding a replacement may be tough but might be able to have someone work it over) 2: scope (it’s gonna need to be repeatable on adjustments, I’ve yet to find one under $1800 that will do it year in and year out) 3: bedding and floating (the only wood stock rifle that I have that I consider a 800 yard rifle is a model 70 pre 64 7 STW my dad got me as a kid. I gutted the inside of the stock and put aluminum pillars and glass bedding in it. It sorta works but it’s no carbon fiber stock by any means)

PRDATR Report post Posted 13 hours ago Back in the early 90's I loaded for my BIL's 06 with Win 760, 56grains IIRC. Might have been compressed but was very accurate, even in his hands. It was his Caribou load so I probably loaded 165gr Partitions. We put a lot of mud on our boots that year east of Nome. One shot was all he needed but it wasn't more than 100 or so yards. It isn't a finicky cartridge. Biggest challenge will be bullet choice so I would stick to a lead/core based bullet to stay within the 1:10 twist and the restraints of the magazine.
cjl2010 Report post Posted 12 hours ago 215 Berger will stabilize in a 10 twist down to about 2500 fps depending on elevation and weather. If you don’t have a muzzle brake anything over 180gn will have some pretty heavy recoil.

Picked up a night force scope for it. I just need to scratch off the NF from the caps.

The last time i shot a 200 grain 06 round i didn't feel a thing. Of course it was at my bison.

It’s an incredible scope and it looks less tactical and much more classic looking which compliments the walnut rifle.

Depending on your range requirement there probably is no need to go above a 180. If you are ever in Payson let me know, I have a mostly full box of 200.20x and 205 elites if you want to try them.
