stanley Report post Posted Friday at 01:22 PM What about that grove that they chopped down on the north side of I-10 west of Picacho Peak? Wondering if that is pecan? If so, there's a gold mine of it there (acres and acres), if they are willing to let folks grab it. Noticed it the last couple of times I drove to Tucson..... Good luck in your search! Boarman03 Report post Posted Friday at 02:14 PM Ask Caldwell BBQ where they get their pecan wood from. I have pecan trees but I use the wood from trimming myself. Yes, that pecan Grove on the North side of the I-10 was cut down SW of Eloy, North of Picacho. Plus the other groves get trimmed/culled.
dmoto Report post Posted Friday at 03:20 PM Convenient, but might be a bit more pricey than others - Berry Brothers off the 202 and Washington, right next to Le Girls - https://bbfw.com/pick-up-by-the-bag-1 Cheap and possibly even free, but not so convenient - Day Break Pecan Orchards, as everyone else mentioned. - 4539 E Phillips Rd, Eloy, AZ 85131
Boarman03 Report post Posted Friday at 04:25 PM If you are smoking your meat unwrapped make sure you remove the bark from your wood. Otherwise you will get a slightly bitter pitchy taste to it. Spatchcocked turkeys smoked with pecan.

When you drive in, to the left hand side they have a section where they have chunks of wood that is bagged in heavy duty plastic bags. this is how I buy my smoking wood. I found that adding a whole piece of firewood was too much at one time and it would raise the temperature too high. I started cutting my wood down with a chop saw but when I saw they sell the same wood in chunks, bagged, in addition to logs, I tried the chunks and it works great for me. They usually have at least 5 to 7 different kinds of wood. I use a mixture of pecan and oak,. the oak last longer in the fire.
