Antler Preservation?

Recommended Posts

I have an elk rack that I want to hang on the gable ends of the outside of my barn. I want to preserve the antlers the best I can since this rack is relatively new and still has a bit of the brown coloring.

I am by no means a taxidermist and all the sheds/ skull finds that I have found have always been very weathered. What can I do/ apply to the antlers to preserve their color? The rack will get good shade throughout the day, but it will be subjected to the high summer temps of the valley.

Thanks in advance for your pointers.

Like Tony said make sure it is for exterior use, and also states on the can "non-yellowing". Several light coats are better than heavy ones.
