New to Trail Cams

Recommended Posts

Alright guys I have never used trail cams before, but I am thinking I wanna drop a couple for an upcoming hunt. HOW DO I KEEP THEM FROM GETTING STOLEN? Are there settings that do not have a visible flash? Is it all about hiding them? I will not be on private land, but will be way out there. Any advise would be appreciated!

Don't leave them out in an open in obvious spots. Hide them, put them up high in a tree, locks can help, almost all cameras have a day, night, or 24 hour setting so you can set it to only take day photos if you wish. I have also had good luck with putting them on the ground if you have a protected spot(fence line, thick bush, rock pile) that can protect it from getting stepped on or licked by animals and also makes it hard for people to see the cam as well.

I put mine up 10-12 feet. So far so good. I did have a pic last trip of a polaris ranger going by my camera. If they wanted it they could have stood on the ranger to reach it, but maybe they didnt see it. The cam was not on a road.

Do the new dark led or IR work for night shots? And do humans not see it too? The reason I ask is I will be hunting close to the border and don't want illegals jackin my cameras.

IR cameras are pretty much undetectable. Hang them high off the ground. Always hang mine high and never lose any. I get a few pictures of people and they never notice them. Don't place them on water holes

Rember if you leave don't expect it to be there when you return, and don't post here if it gets stolen, we've been there
